JAT TO TRANSPORT UN TROOPS

BELGRADE - Yugoslav Air Transport (JAT) and the Toronto-based multinational air traffic company Skyline have signed, with the mediation of the Canadian Embassy, in Belgrade an accord on the transport of UN peacekeeping forces, JAT media center said Thursday evening.

Alex, thanks for the posting.

This is indeed very interesting. I am glad JAT will have more frequent visits to North America, other than its occasional flight to New York and Washington (with the YU-AKI). I wonder if JAT may at least consider operating charter flights to North America; this could easily lead to regular scheduled flights in summer if all goes right. Anyways its just an idea...

BTW many Canadian (UN) personnel usually depart from YOW when they are destined abroad. My assumption is that JAT will be operating those flights into Ottawa  Smile

They always show the peacekeepers getting on to planes before they leave on the news. It will be great to see them getting on to a JAT plane!

Absolutely. If weather conditions permit, i would be more than willing to take a few shots of JAT planes at YOW. I am not sure whether they would board through the civilian part of the airport, or they will board directly outside. I believe that if they depart from YOW, the plane is likely to be parked in the general location where the the Canadian A310 is located.

A few months ago, i saw a Tarom A310 parked at YOW. That was a very pleasant surprise to have something from abroad for once!

What in the press release says that they are going to transport Canadian troops ? All that the news clipping says is that the deal was struck by a Toronto-based multi-national agency... ? AFAIK, JAT only has one DC10-30 and I am not sure about the aircraft's condition after 10 years or so sitting on the ground.

@Vfw614

Jat`s single DC-10 is in service and in good condition. Sometimes they fly with it to Zurich, like this winter.

It was not sitting on the ground, it was in service most of the time. It also receantly underwent a D check I beleive (the most complex one) and had one engine replaced. It's in perfectly fine working condition. In another, more detailed press relaese that I found later but did not post it mentions Canadian troops.

I flew the YU-AMB twice last summer. Lets just say that the interior is just as attractive and pleasant as it is from the outside. Last years trips on the YU-AMB also brang back childhood memories of the days i travelled on such aircraft between YMX-BEG and YMX-ZAG. Though as a child i did not follow much in aviation, i remembered the 2-5-2 abreast seating, and some other details from the DC10s.

Here is the YU-AMB from this passed year:
