That was a very cool video of a LH A340
landing at FRA.(shot from jump seat)

What does it mean when the computer
says "retard, retard, retard" just a few
feet before touching down?

Thanks!

Hehe, and short before the AF A320 crashed into that forest, the computer shouted "...100...50...40...30...20..IDIOT IDIOT...10...boom!"  Smile

But seriously, when the pilot is doing a manual landing with autothrust engaged the "retard" callout comes in the flare. The autothrust interprets the flare as a level off and unless the pilot retards the throttles to idle the plane will simply level off and fly down the runway at 10ft.
I hope this is clear enough.

assuming you're referring to CI A340's
little incident at ANC...

Sorry, the computer wouldn't say that...
Airbus has specially fitted a "skip
message" switch for CI pilots. The
dual-purpose switch also changes the
color of the lights on the taxiway and
turn it into runway lights!  Big grin  Big grin  Big grin
Personally, I think they should install
panic buttons for every passenger...
(and the flight controller who has to
watch them take off)

I beleive the annunciator panel word on the B737 is "Retard" too. So that word is now aviation jargon.

SafeFlyer,

maybe your system did not downloaded the entire file. Try to download it again, maybe this helps.

And for anybody else, go to www.a340.net there are more cool videos of A340!

I just checked out all the videos at a340.net. The A340 actually seems like a sweet piece of machinery, before i saw the cockit videos i didn't like it very much. Airbus v Boeing 1-1 for me now. Used to be 0-1.  Big thumbs up
