As I type this, B-HIH, the only freighter in the CX fleet converted from a passenger aircraft is taxiing out for storage in Avalon. This makes 4 aircraft that are down there (When -HIH arrives).

B-HXF, A340
B-HXH, A340
B-HLI or HLK, A330
B-HIH, 742F.

Can anyone confirm which A330 is currently down there?
A 744 will join them at the end of this month.

By the time they all get down to Avalon it will be time to bring the Airbus aircraft back to Hong Kong !!. Many markets are already getting better.

As for the 744, I know that will have some heavy work done on the wings. How long will it be down there ??

Not a clue, but there are already plans to bring one A340 back in around May to have a heavy check then rejoin the fleet in time for the new London service.

Cathay actually do a lot of training in Parafield, Adelaide. They chose Avalon to store aircraft because of the engineering capabilities there, and the fact that CX MEL engineers can keep their eyes on the aircraft and occassionally visit AVV to work on them.

This added with the climate, and parking fees made AVV the choice.

I have been to Avalon for the airshow and it is quite a large airport. A C5, 744 and 733 were amongst the aircraft there when I visited.

ANA and ANK also send aircraft there for crew training, all the way down from Japan. I saw an ANK 737-500 and an ANA 767-200 (Domestic) there!!

B-HLK is the A330 parked in AVV.

FYI info B-HOW goes there also towards end of Feb, then followed by B-HOX.

B-HOX is an ILFC leased a/c and was due for return in Aug 2002.

Probably wont see HOX flying ever again for CX. As for HOW this will require a D chk after storage.

B-HIH has close to 90000hrs so doubt this will return

As far as I know, B-HOX will be flown to Xiamen for maintanance. Our management has said that there are 'exciting' things in store for HOX and rumours are that this is the fitting of new Aviation Partner winglets. We will have to wait and see whether it gets a new scheme or not. I do not believe that it will be returned to the leasing company.

Are there any CX 742's left without the new livery?
I still think the new livery is the best amongst all the Asian airlines, with the possible exception of SIA.

Its sad but the 742's are a waning breed.

Remember Disney Hong Kong opens in 2005 so its possible that a CX or KA aircraft may get a Disney scheme.

Isn't B-HOX the Spirit of Hong Kong special livery B747-467???

Fancy parking an aircraft as special as that? Can't they park B-HOO or something, their first 744?

They aren't actually parking B-HOX. The 'special plans' for it mean that it will most probably be flown to Xiamen. It is due for a major check anyway, and if they do fit new winglets it will be out of service while they test it, so it isn't really being stored, just withdrawn from service.

Hi,
Is there anyone living in Avalon and is free to spotting there and take some good pictures of CX parking planes for us?

Best wishes,
cxcx330
