Yes its confirmed, I heard it on the news too, I think the service is from Peshawar, PIA have returned to the market after twenty one years, they flew there till 1981, the route was axed amid suspicion that the Afghan govt. was involved in backing the hijackers of a PIA B720 in March 1981, operating a domestic leg from Karachi to Peshawar, one passenger was killed in Kabul, the aircraft later was flown to Damascus, drama lasted two weeks and at one time was recorded in Guniess book of world records as the longest ever.

PIA have set aside two A300 to ferry the Afghan Pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj, first flight was operated yesterday and carried 270 people who had been stranded at Kabul airport for three days, the flights will operate Islamabad-Kabul-Islamabad-Jeddah the stop at ISB will be for refuelling only, the service is a goodwill gesture and the aircraft have not been chartered or leased by Afghanistan or Ariana.
PIA's F27 service to Kabul is also chartered at present and operates from Islamabad catering mainly to NGO/aid agency personnel other then the U.N.
