Alitalia 777-243ERs delivery dates and reg. codes:

I-DIMA Aug. 02
I-DIMB Oct. 02
I-DIMC Nov. 02
I-DIMD Dec. 02
I-DIME Jan. 03

Scheduled serivice will start at the begining of the 02-03 winter schedule at the end of Oct. on the MXP-JFK route when at least 2 777s will be available. MXP-NRT, FCO-JFK will follow. Between Aug. and the end of Oct. the first 777 will be tested with the crews on several of the non daily longhaul flights such as NRT, LOS, KIX. So if your booked on any of these flights it might be your lucky day and you'll get to fly one of these new jets.

I look forward to flying a Delta codeshare on one of these birds. Michael, do you know if Magnifica Class will be in a 2-3-2 configuration or 2-2-2? I understand that it's 2-3-2 on the MD-11s. Hopefully it won't be like that on the 777s.

It's a new day. Every moment matters. Now, more than ever.

I can't wait to see the Alitalia 777s! They are going to look so good in Alitalia colors. What will the classes be like? Alitalia is just two-class, right? Will economy have PTVs and footrests?

Any chance that we might see those new 777's in Toronto (YYZ)?

I like British Airways! I'm not sure why, but I do! ;-)

Finally. I wonder what their economy class will be like? Their economy on their old 742's wasn't great. They had the ugliest cloth interiors. Hopefully economy on the 777's will be much nicer.

Hey Michael,
where have you got those info?
You posted just 5 of the 6 regs. (AZ orderd 6 B777-200ER). But I'm happy to see that 4 will be available by the year end.
Alitalia has chosen the GE 90-94B engine for its 777s, because AZ has always been a big GE customer, having had CF6-50 on its A300s, DC10s and B742 and CF6-80 on its MD-11s and B767s. Moreover, having placed options for the B777-300ER, whose only engine is the GE90-115B, the choice had to fall on that engine.

Ciao

Stefano

I bet the AZ cabin layout will be similar to the actual CO B772 (48 BusinessFirst 2x2x2 in 55" and 235 3x3x3 Economy in 32").
AZ also use a two class cabin with Magnifica with 55" pitch.
I hope they will put PTVs also in economy.

Alitalia always use to register its aircraft ending with A,E,I,O,U,Y first and then continue with the other letters. Will it not be I-DIMA, DIME, DIMI, DIMO, DIMU ?

Yes AZ 777s will have PTVs in coach. Rockwell Enternainment will provide them. I don't know the seat configuration. I got the info off of the "Boeing 777 fleet page website". The reg. codes were provide from an AZ employee of the S.F. AZ office.

Steman: AZ ordered 5 777-243ERs and has options on 6 777-343ERs + 6 777-243ERs.

Hi!

With the introdution of this new type can we expect a new livery for Alitalia or not yet? It's been "centuries" since they last changed, was it 1970 or 1971?
Regards

Michael,
unless they cancelled an order Alitalia ordered 6 B777-243ER, took options on 6 B777-343ER and 6 more rolling options for unspecified versions.
If there are only 5 regs available maybe it's because the sixth one hasn't been released yet or hasn't been planned.

Ciao

Stefano

Yes, I recently added info on upcoming deliveries on my website  Smile Nice that people take notice Smile Like Steman said, Alitalia still has 6 777-243ER on order and according to the Boeing website, has not cancelled any. Looking forward to seeing AZ 777 and hope to fly on one too eventually. Any idea when/if AirEurope will get rid of their 777s? Tha777Man
