How come there are hardly any widebodies @ BHX???

I get fed up seeing the same old A319s landing!

I would like to see BA operate a route using 777 or 747.

What airline & aircraft would you like to see operate a service from BHX???

The runway. thats why!!!!!!!! it cant really handle a widebody fully ladened so any flight using a widebody from BHX on a reasonably long haul flight would have to include a tech stop en-route.

At BHX i would like to see nothing hahahahahahaha!!!!!. only kidding. i would like to see QF there so when i go to AUS next year i wouldnt have to travel all the way down to LHR or have to get a connecting flight to LHR. I wonder what 757MAN will have to say about this

Regards BDRules

BDRules is correct in stating that the runway is the main limiting factor @ BHX.

My airline get the 763 out of there to Orlando in the Summer though (I think, haven't done a 76 rotation from BHX in ages).

i go to BHX when i need a fix of anything but bmi which isnt that often. still like EMA at night with the cargo operations. BHX is a good airport but a real Sh*t to get through especially the Main Terminal

Karl,

Actually good old BAL. Like I said not sure what's happening with our 76 operation @ BHX, as I am LGW-based. Did a few standbys from BHX last Summer but they were all 75s.

I'm sure we used to do MCO though?! All a blur really...

I flew 767-200ER from BHX last year, on HY. came from US on its way to tashkent! nice plane. i do agree its a shame about the runway..... or lack of it! apart from that its one of the nicest airports around.. evident by the numerous awards it has won!

I must say that from a pilots point of view BHX is a great airport to fly from, with a truly professional bunch in ATC.

I also flew as a passenger from there in September last year and found it far less hassle than Manchester or Gatwick.

I am never too upset at having to fly from BHX or EMA for that matter, always makes a refreshing change from LGW.

i am very impressed at the amount of 'publicity' BHX gets, whether it be discussion, arguement. debate e.t.c. It seems like they are doing a great job! its definately my favourite airport to fly from as far as airports go, although it would be nice to see more international long haul services. But i guess its unlikely with the runway restrictions.
And the roadworks along the A45 (i think) will not help- modernising a road which prevents the runway extension. Seems like BHX will have to make do with the short-medium range market with the 767's and A330's as their biggest airliner for long haul- these baing 2 modern airliners which are in frequent use in the industry.

OK, you want widebodies - Here you go:

B767-200/200 - American (from April 2nd), Airtours, Britannia. Sometimes HY (covering for 757)

A310 - Cyprus Airways, Air Transat

A330-200 - Emirates, JMC, possibly Airtours/MyTravel

Lockheed L-1011 - Air Transat

B747 - PIA are supposed to returning in April with X2 747's via FRA

Some of the above only operate in the Summer season. BY fly the 767-300 to Orlando from BHX in the Summer, they seem to get off the runway OK.

While it is true BHX suffers due to it's main runway, it is 2606m in length. Similar to airports such as Glasgow - Yet you don't hear people slagging GLA off due to it's runway length. Strange that is...

We used to get regular DC-10's during the Summer with the likes of MON and JMC, but they've all stopped flying these a/c now.

757man you say possibly A332's of AIH/MYT - any evidance? I didn't think they were even concidering a 763 uprade on any routes???? and PIA ARE returning on March 31st 2002 but with Airbus A310's again by the looks of it twice weekly.

I went on a B763ER of BY from BHX-MCO-BHX in Summer 2000 and the bloody thrust up that runway made your eyes water and the skin rip off your face! We need a longer runway!!!!!!! Landing back nice low approach, and reverse thrust wow!! I thought everyone had ended up in the cockpit upon vacating R15!

Oh and BTW March sees Aer Lingus A330 AdHocs and you never know AIH may send in their DC10 a few times too - for details of EI adhocs and a roundup of all the other news from Birmingham International Airport

I suppose its the 146 concidering BE and DAT operating them, WDL have a few ops and err A319's will be no more when the are replaced by Cityflyer RJ100's in the Spring.

TakeFlightVA - There are rumours of MyTravel A330 Summer flights doing the rounds, but no no hard evidence. That's why I said the word 'possibly' in my earlier post. This is something I'd like to see though. They were supposed to be flying to Canada from BHX, in response to the demise of CMM.

RE most frequent a/c at BHX. I'll agree that is probably a tie between the 146 variants and the A319. You'll see a lot of CRJ-200's and 700's belonging to Maersk UK and Lufthansa, not to mention Eurowings.

BHX also see's a lot of Boeing 757 types, though these are mainly charter movements with the likes of BY, JMC and AMM. Though Continental, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan use them too. I'd say BHX is on a par with most UK regional airports with regards to variety of aircraft types visiting.

Complaining about the 319's eh? Better kiss them goodbye and say hello to the One-Four-Sick/RJ 100....

Regarding the AIH service to YYZ, flight times are listed below:

AIH93/4 Depart Friday 10.30 Arrive 07.00 Saturday Via Glasgow WEF 3.5.02
AIH95/6 Depart Sunday 10.30 Arrive 07.00 Monday Via Glasgow WEF 5.5.02

BE could replace all 146's with DH4's but this is a tag doubtful, but still options there, and they are belived to be looking at the CR7 for some strange reason, these new fleet plans are due to the cancellation of the RJX order.

Finally BHX are getting modern aircraft from the A330-200 to the fresh products - DHQ400 CR7 etc

All of the major charter carriers that have 767's will base at least one each of their examples this Summer. This years Summer schedule isn't all that much different to last year......Expect most charter movements to be dominated by Mr 757 and his smaller rival, Mr A321.
