I was wondering if there was some kind of special significance as to why there were a lot of ATA and Champion Air AC at DTW this morning, any major charters that I don't know about?
ATA had a 738 parked between the NW DC-10 hangar and the current international terminal, and then two L1011s and a 727 parked by the maintenance hangar, one L1011 and 727 were parked in the oldest scheme, the other L1011 in the tropical and the 738 of course in the newest. I haven't usually seen more than two ATA a/c on the premises at once
Then over by the Executive Terminal/Signature Flight support on the corner of Middlebelt and Lucas Drive there were four Champion Air 727s parked there. It is common to see one 727 parked by the International terminal or at a Northwest gate and maybe another over at Signature, but not 4 in one spot.
Incidentally, how many 727s does Champion have in its fleet?

The reason for the MG planes at DTW is the increased DTW-LAS traffic last weekend. LAS had over 278,000 visitors last weekend, we usually figure at least 75% come via airplane. DTW is a big market and that is where the money is made, therefor MG had quite a number of flights going in and out. The other reason is the loss of SY, MG has picked up some of their load. BTW MG is between 40-50% owned by NWA and uses them for MX at DTW.

As an ex-ATA'er... Thursday, Friday, and Saturday are busy days for charters at the old-IT. In any case, FunJet and ATA Leisure Corp (ATA's in house charter company) charter out those aircraft (they share seats). But this year, it's a mix bag of aircraft. Here is some of the details...
I tried my best here, and most of the charters "end" in April, but like CUN, MBJ, and LAS- they continue all-year round, but don't have confirmations yet. Normally, new confirmations come out every six-months.
I should also add, these have been taken from ATALC, So it is possible for Funjet to have additional flights to other desinations.
