Airlines operating to Pakistan report big rush for Eid holidays

Airlines operating to Pakistan have reported a rush for the Eid Al Adha holidays and are operating additional flights.

According to airline sources, flights of almost all the airlines operating from the UAE to Pakistan are fully booked until February 23.

While airlines are putting on additional flights, they are also replacing smaller aircraft with bigger ones on the most heavily travelled routes.

"It's difficult now to get seats reserved even on additional flights," said Khawajah Tanveer, a leading travel agent in Dubai. Five days of official holidays have prompted people to celebrate Eid back home, he said.

He added that all the private Pakistani airlines had issued instructions to issue tickets for Eid flights on coupon uplift basis to avoid 'ghost bookings' and 'no shows' at the airport.

Airline officials have also advised passengers to reach the airport at least three hours before departure to avoid cancellation or delays.

Zahir Hayat, general manager of PIA in Dubai, said the airline would operate 26 additional flights from the UAE to various destinations in Pakistan because of the heavy rush. It will operate six additional flights from Al Ain, 10 from Dubai and 10 from Abu Dhabi to various cities in Pakistan, with Lahore and Peshawar being the most sought after destinations.

Emirates will operate two extra flights on its Dubai-Lahore and Dubai-Islamabad sector.

Rehan Iftikhar, deputy marketing manager of Aero Asia, said: "This year, we are witnessing more rush on the Dubai-Lahore and Dubai-Karachi sectors. All our flights are fully booked for the Eid holidays."

He added that one extra-section Dubai-Karachi flight will be operated on Friday, February 22.

Shaheen Air reported full reservations. Shafqat Ullah Khan, country manager, said the airline would operate direct flights from February 18 to 23 on all its destinations from Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain instead of joining flights from Dubai, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi done on normal days.

Hi there GF-A330

Today PIA operated an extra flight out of DOH to Pakistan it was a 737, I have seen it depart today. They will operate 1 more special flight on the 737 if my sources are correct.

QR will upgrade equipment to A300-600 from A320 on some of the flights to Pakistan, Bahrain and UAE to cater for the extra movements. This is something normal during eid. Emirates, PIA, Air India and QR are all adding extra flights/seats out of Doha. EK is operating one extra A330-200 flight besides it's 2x daily 772 service. Air India is operating one extra flight to India (don't know where) on the A310 also. Still Pakistan usually experiences the most rush during eid.

BTW GF-A330 i just added you to my respected user list
