Can´t recall where I read that recently, but Kuwait Airways is rumoured to go all-Airbus. The two 747 Classics left are up for sale for some time now, but if true this rumour will mean the 777s will have to go, too.

Don´t think this will have an effect on the Emir´s B 744 though (thats painted in the airline´s colours, but to my knowledge only flies as private/government transport).

It's easy to understand: They use the A340's for their longest routes, and the 747's/777's on their most travelled routes.

Airbus doesn't have a plaane with the capacity of a 744

And ifthey can operate both types proffitably, then, what's the problem???

There are 3 B747s

1x B744 flies for the Emir/Government
1x B742 is leased to Garuda
1x B742 is parked at KWI airport awaiting sale.

[from Bill Harms]

So this means they don't really need the capacity of B742's

As Gerardo has mentioned. I don't think they will operate only Airbus, politic can be a reason and it is for them maybe even more important than an economical reason. Ok, I don't think that Kuwait will be closer to the USA in the future since the fact is that USA needs Kuwait maybe even more than Kuwait the Staates.

But if we don't talk about politics it would make sense of course even I liked both, their 777 and 340

Gulf Air and Kuwait Airways managements both held a meeting earlier on in the month, discussing possible joint co-operation between the two airlines.

A majority of the meeting discussed ties in the technical field. Some agreement was decided between the two airlines regarding sharing each others aircraft and using one base for crew training.

Also, because GF are getting rid of there 767s it would mean that they would be left with an all Airbus fleet, similar to that of Kuwait. Maybe, this has something to do with it.

Indeed there are MAJOR politics involved...

Kuwait owes the US a big bill. Not to take away from 1991 coalition forces from other states, but Kuwait is 'free' today because of US led intervention.

That said, the airline should buy the aircraft it needs to do the job right, be it Boeing or Airbus. Although I'd caution; airlines that have recently rushed to dump every Boeing product they have in favor of shiny new Airbuses...aren't doing too well. (cough)Swissair(cough)....(cough)Sabena(cough)....

AY-MD11 since when did KU have the A340-600??
Kuwait airways certainly does not the capacity of the B747. A kuwaiti friend of mine told me that his cousin who works for the airline said so as well....

The latest in Airbus' "conspiracy theorie"...

'Airlines that recently rushed to dump every Boeing product they have in favor of shiny new Airbuses aren't doing too well'.

You made my dau mate, that was funny!

You dont really believe what you write, do you? Get real and start talking about thing you know something of.

Airlines will buy that what fit them best, wether it is Airbus or Boeing and wether the yanks have been in their country or not. Being European i'd love to see them flying all Airbusses offcourse.

Afterall Boeings tend to be more wanted by hijackers, since they are American. Big grin
