As PSU said, ther have been 2 DC10 flights for a while now. They started DC10 service as soon as the World Rwy" was completed. This is rwy 18C/36C that is long enough to take a fully loaded DC10. What's odd, is that it always used 18R/36L (now closed for a while) for landing and T/o.
Why do they have this service? Because they need a large a/c to take people from MEM to MSP. MEM and MSP service many cities that are exclusive to those hubs. Therefore there is a need for a high density hub to hub a/c for the peak push times for many connecting pax. And all the airline crews that go between hubs too. Everytime I've been on this flight, it has been nearly full, if not completely.
DTW doesn't get a DC10, the largest is a 757. Even though MEM and DTW are in the same situation as MSP, I guess the loads aren't good enough for a 10.
