Hi,

I read the following on Pprune.org but it didn't get much response there, so I thought I'd ask here.

"Does anyone know anything about a new start-up airline called Red Air, flying DC10-30 5X-ONE from LGW to LOS and EBB via BJL and FNA?
In particular, what is the history of the aircraft?"

LOS= Lagos, Nigeria
EBB= Entebbe, Uganda
BJL= Banjul, The Gambia
FNA= Freetown, Sierra Leone (I think)

So has anyone heard anything about this? If it's passengers they're obviously going for the VFR (visiting friends and relatives) market. Or is it a cargo idea? I assume it would be a UK based airline?
Given the current situation in the airline industry have they got a hope in Hell?!

Thanks for your info and opinions.

Well, im an LGW local and check flights regulaly and have seen no 'Red Air' or any unusal flight codes. What is their flight code?

I know there is a flight LGW-BJL-FNA but I beleive its operated by a Cougar 727.

Anyone know anything bout this?

Oh and no, they dont stand a hope in hell Big grin

LOL let's hope we're wrong LGW!

I think they're just a planned airline- they certainly aren't flying yet.

Would be nice. MAN gets all the interesting stuff so a new thing just for LGW would be a nice first!

Hi,

The airline will be called Africa One and it setup or partialy owned by the management of DAS Air.

5X-ONE is ex 5Y-MBA and that was the DC10 flying for African Safari.

The aircraft is now as said 5X-ONE and was at Manston for a couple of weeks for maintenance. I believe it left Manston last week for respray in Africa One colours.

For the livery of Africa One, see my website and select the new airline section.

Another thing- is there so much demand that British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Nigeria Airways and Africa One could all make money on LON-LOS? (BA also fly LON-Abuja in Nigeria, and VS will start this service in April too).

I assume they'll have 5th freedom rights between the UK and the stopping points?

It is a passengers airline. For inner Africa routes i beleive MD82's are being used.
