Just last month, America West started leasing a 2nd gate in Denver (DEN).
I was browsing through there schedule and found out that they fly from PHX to DEN 6 times a day, 5 733, and 1 757.
Then I checked there schedule for May, and found out that they'll be operating up to 8 flights per day! 4 733s, 2 A319s, and 2 757s. Denver has never gotten this many America West flights.
Yesterday, America West just started operating a 2nd flight from Las Vegas (LAS) which it dropped in September as a result of the terrorist attacks. LAS is served by a 733 and A319.
That makes 10 flights a day on America West to DEN.
SLC currently has 5 flights a day from PHX on 737s. They will be recieving a 6th flight in April, but it will be operated by a Mesa Air (America West Express) CRJ which I found quite odd. I'd think SLC would get only 737s. America West is also starting an LAS-SLC flight also operated on a CRJ.
Any idea why the sudden expansion for America West in DEN?

Looking at OAG for mid-May United is only operating 9 daily flights on a mix of 733s/A319s/A320s... prior to 9-11 and the demise of Shuttle there were 14 daily DEN-PHX flights. So HP may be trying to canabilize some of the volume lost by United.
