Royal 737's

I thought Royal Airlines retired these, or they were cargo, but I saw one yesterday with passengers bound for YYZ. Can you give me any info on these as in numbers and possible retirement schedules?

I believe they are combi/convertible aircraft. They fly cargo some of the time, and convert them back to passengers for peak seasons. The Royal webpage says they have two of them, but the Transport Canada civil aircraft register shows 5 aircraft, of which three are -200C and the others are -200 passenger models. I don't know when they'll be retired, but you can view the aircraft info by searching the aircraft register at http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation

I work at YVR for a major Canadian courier company, and we use Royal Cargo 737Fs to transport our freight. I always see two 737Fs parked over by the YVR Cargo Centre. We use them 6 days a week, on the route YVR-YYC-YWG-YYZ return.

I believe two of the Royal 737-200s are mainly used for passenger flights. C-FNAP and C-FNAQ are the two. They have flown the Toronto-Winnipeg flight a few times each week, but I think are mainly used for pax flights out of Toronto to Ft. Lauderdale and perhaps Orlando. They may also fly the odd Toronto-Montreal Dorval flight. The freighter 737s, in Royal Cargo livery are registered C-FTLT, and C-GCDG, and I believe there is one more. C-GCDG comes through YWG every Saturday at 3:00pm from the east, and onto Calgary, Vancouver.

my JP's show them as having two 37's that are either frtr / paxs.
they are C-FNAP, SN#20496, 122 PAX., AND C-FNAQ, SN#20455, 122 PAX. both started out with Nordair, FNAP deliversd in 1971, and FNAQ delivered in 1970. both are 1970 aircraft.

OK, C-FNAP and C-FNAQ are on the register. Both are 737-242C's. FNAQ shows as 1970 built, and FNAP as 1971.

C-FTLT was an Air Canada DC9, no longer in AC's fleet.

That was probably a typo on FTLT, C-FJLT is a 1970 built 737-2A9C. C-GCDG is a 1973 built 737-2E1.

The other one is C-GDCC, another 1973 built 737-2E1.

Oops, sorry Lonnie. I just pulled the Transport Canada register, and they had 1971 as the date of manufacture. They must count the initial delivery as the end of manufacturing for the purpose of their registration.

I also have a few more questions on Royal's 737's and their cargo operations.

1) Is one of these aircraft painted all white? I have seen an all white 737 a few times flying overhead, and wasn't sure whose it was. Was this a Royal freighter going incognito?

2) On the courier operations, does Royal haul specifically for one courier? Or do they just sell a portion of the space on the aircraft to several outfits? Also, do they haul more than just courier traffic, or is that what they're basically into on the cargo side?

3) Does Royal use its passenger fleet to also carry any cargo? Especially on their A310's?

I thought I would use this topic to tell everyone that Royal is also looking at getting 737-700's to replace the 757's which the airline hates.

The only reason that ROYAL got the 757 was because they wanted to get a contract from a tour company. Boeing is going to give ROYAL a good deal on the NJ's and it is almost a "forsure" thing that the -700's will be replacing the 757 within the year

If Royal get 737-700s to replace their 757s, will they get more A310s to take over the 757s Trans-Atlantic work?
Also, most charter airlines love their 757s. Why do Royal hate theirs? They must have a reason for being so desparate to get rid of them, they're Royal's newest type!
I thought Royal's first priority would be getting rid of those nasty old 737-200s. Do you know if the 737NGs will replace them too? At least the pax ones, Cargo doesn't care if the plane is old!!!!

Finally, Will Royal just take the 737-700 or also the -800 too. The -700 is a very small plane to replace the 228 seat 757.

From What I understand Royal will look at more A310's to take over the Atlantic flights. For now they are only looking at the -700's and I am sure that eventually they will get rid of the -200's aswell.

Royal and most othe charters do not like the 757, it is the tour companies that like the plane because they can fill them till they burst and fly them to almost any city in the world. It's not the airlines that like the 57 its the tour companies.

Hi All,

I actually flew on C-FNAP as a passenger when it belonged to Canadi>n (a.k.a. Canadi>n Pacific/Pacifique) in July, 1987. I sat behind the right wing by the window; can't remember what row though. Reading these posts brought back a bit of nostalgia... I can still remember the takeoff on 24L at YYZ and how we banked to the right and there was an AC 767 lined up to take off next.
