I just read (www.airliners.de) that Lufthansa wants to increase it's flights to the US by 40%(!!!) which would be more than they cut after september 2001. If you consider this then maybe Continental also changed it's mind about DUS... Does anybody have information on this?
Btw: If anybody working for CO is here: If you fly to DUS again I promise I'll book a flight with you!

I seriously doubt Berlin will get another shot at transatlantic service anytime soon. That route was doomed even before last September, due to lack of high yield pax, and I doubt this has changed or is going to change in the foreseeable future. Especially with the recently installed communist government I doubt investors are going to flock to Berlin.

Just a general observation: A lot of stupid things are written on www.airliners.de as, unlike in this forum, hardly anybody from within the industry posts there. With no criticsim intended and just stating a fact, it is predominantly school kids posting there relying on hearsay and third hand rumours.

The 40 % increase is correct. I've read it in some online paper as well. But these 40 % are first of all the MUC-BOS and then all the flights coming back for summer thatw ere stopped after September 11th or for winter anyway.
So most of LH's flights will be back to daily or even double daily like LAX...
No new destinations so far.

Here's parts of the article.
The service enhancements include:
Restored daily service to Frankfurt from Atlanta, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, and Philadelphia.
Additional daily flights to Frankfurt from Boston (beginning May 10), Chicago, Los Angeles (beginning April 17) and Washington, D.C.
Daily flights to Munich from Boston (beginning May 1, daily except Fridays), New York JFK (beginning March 1, formerly operated from Newark) and San Francisco.

That the flight from DUS to EWR won't return anytime soon is clear now but does anybody know anything about long-term plans?
And also with PHX, any chance that they will fly there daily again in the (near) future?

Can someone explain to me why every airline is going to restore its USA services suddenly? Does everbody want to jump on the bandwagon (afraid they may loose out if the economy really improves) or is traffic (and moreover yields) again on pre-September 11 levels (which given the current state the Western economies are in is hard to believe)?

I also heard that MUC won't see any 744 this summer so, Johnnybgoode, if they increase 40% than they must spread expansion all over Germany or better between FRA and MUC... Man I do hope that everything will be bettter soon again!
Btw: Didn't LH use to fly HAM-JFK a few years ago?
