Hi All,

Few weeks ago somebody posted info that Southwest is putting US flag on all aircrafts.
Any updates? Did they paint even one aircraft so far?

Thanks,
Rafal

Out on the ramp, so far, the only plane I've seen with the flag was that -300, forgot the tail number...haven't seen anymore but hear they are putting them on all our aircraft...

I was the one who posted the original message about the flags on our aircraft.

I haven't seen any other planes leave here (the MX facility where I work) with flags. That's not to say that they aren't being applied elsewhere.

I thought you couldn't put flags on your planes unless you were a designated flag carrier.

I could be wrong though.

There are no 'flag carriers' in the United States! We are a Republic, not a socialist state.

I believe there are. It's terminology for those that are able to carry the flag and who are international carriers.

Neil: If you believe there are US "flag carriers", who are they and who gave them that designation?

Any US aircraft regardless of certificate may carry the US flag.

The Department of Transportation gave them that designation.

Any US based international air carrier is REQUIRED to be a flag carrier and only these carriers may display the flag. That's what my professor told me when I asked him.

So how come Southwest is able to put US flags on their aircrafts if they are not flying outside USA???

Being a "flag carrier" and carrying the flag are two different things! I fly a flag on my Pilatus, I'm not an international airline!
