Hello all,
can anyone confirm or deny that 2 KLM 747's landed at Ringway not so long back ? I heard this second hand and while it may be old news I was gutted to have missed them.
I've been a casual spotter there since I was a wee bairn and never had the pleasure of seeing any European 74's (KLM, Sabena, AF, Swissair etc.) land at Manchester. Have I just been unlucky - or have any of these rare birds ever visited the rainy city ?

I can confirm that two KLM 747s were in MAN sometime early 2001/late 2000. A KLM transatlantic flight heading to AMS suffered an engine failure and landed at MAN. KLM sent out a backup 747 to MAN to pick up the passengers resulting in two KLM 747s being there at the same time.

I've seen 4 AF 747s here (mostly substituting for Se210s/727s in the late 1970s/early 1980s when Man Utd played French sides). I think that they have also came in when Air Inter had charter flights early to mid 1980s.
KLM 747s have diverted here infrequently due weather at AMS and the en-route occasion as above.
Lufthansa about a couple of times due medical emergencies (though LH Cargo have also made sporadic appeareances).

Cheers - I remember the AF 747 being in Manchester, it was probably about 78/79. I didn't get to see it as I was at school that day !
I also remember a Swissair 747 probably around the same time maybe a little earlier but again I missed out.
I suppose one of the best things about spotting at Manchester is that you really appreciate any heavies you do get.
