Although they don't get nearly as many a/c as Kai Tak did.

Thanks for the link hkg_clk !!.

CLK is much better in terms of traffic but NOTHING will ever match the thrill of Kai Tak.

Nice pics - (can someone pass me a hanky please)
I often wondered how the guys in the ATC tower thought, as they watched these guys veer in their direction!

I would say the only other airport i have been to that rivals the excitment of a Kai Tak IGS approach is Queenstown, New Zealand. I had a jumpseat for the approach through the mountains, and over the lake... and the short finals is very very similar to St. Maarten's approach. I just found the sharp turns over the lake with tall mountains all over was very dramatic! Just a shame there is not much traffic, but it does get 737's. Anyone else enjoy Queenstown airport as well?

There will never again be an airport like HKG. SXM will never, never compare until there are 20-30 heavies per hour landing there. Many mistake SXM as such a nice place to watch planes because of the photos at this site but in reality how many times a day/week does this really happen. I would say you will starve sitting on the beach at SXM until you see the equal amout of traffic at Kai Tak. At the most on a busy day at SXM you will see 2-3 of these shots in a 24 hour time span compared to Kai Tak. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Notdownunlocked: I think you'd probably starve much quicker at Kai Tak waiting to get a shot like that these days Smile Just kidding!

I say Princess Juliana can never be compared to Kai Tak in terms of traffic of course. But the exciting and dangerous part of Kai Tak is the 47 degree right turn to align with runway 13 and to make things worst you have all the residential areas just below you.

Here at SFO if they ever use 1L/R it would require a Kai TAk Style Approach, due to terrain.

Did get to ride in the CX sim before they moved them over to CLK, though.
