What do you think are milestones/ mistakes in aviation that occurred during 1880-2002? Airline, aircraft, airports, etc. Anything.

I'm going to have to say that the first flight, first mass produced aircraft, first jet engine, first passenger flight and first paved runway are by far the most important advances/milestones in civil aviation.

The things we see today are nothing but a drop in the bucket compared to how important some things in the past were. I'd say the next milestone of this importance will be the first scheduled outerspace passenger services.

Of course the Wright Brothers and all the other Aviation Pioneers.

But more recently I'd say the 707, 747, 737, A320, and 777 have shaped the airlines quite a bit, especially the 737.
