Emirates has selected General Electric-Pratt & Whitney joint venture (dubbed the Alliance) as the supplier of engines for its A380 aircraft.

Rolls Royce missed out on the $1.5 billion contract - despite Rolls engines powering 34 of the existing 37 aircraft fleet of Emirates.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates Chairman said about the selected engine "its specification, projected performance and price combined to convince us that it is the best deal for Emirates - technically, operationally and commercially".

One wonders whether the decision was also based on the IFSD problems with the RR Trent 800 on the 777s as EK was heavily marketing their all Rolls Royce fleet. _____________________________________________
