I've seen these in pics of older planes, like 707s, 737-200s, etc.

My question is what are the things above the seats on the bottom of the overhead bins? Are they where the Fasten Seat Belt & No Smoking signs are located? Are they lights? I've never been able to figure it out!

Thanks,

Looks like passenger service units to me. Reading lights, air, and the oxygen masks are up there.

Those things are PSU's - Passenger Service Units - where there are a reading light, air vent and crew call button. Those were the days of open overhead luggage compartments. The doors were fitted later.

The picture brought back memories of my first years on B720b's. They had open racks with those unsightly hanging boxes.

Wow! I'm really old. If I hadn't read the replies, I'd have had no idea what "things" were refered to. I looked at the picture for several minutes trying to find something out of place and couldn't.

Damn, this website is getting worse daily.

Thanks for the help! I was thinking that they would have the reading lights, FA call button, etc. on that panel, but because they were all on older planes, I thought it had some other purpose that you don't see on planes today.

IMissPiedmont- I guess I should have specified what "things" referred to. Sorry, my fault!!
