Dripstick - I think Edwards AFB is slightly longer than that (A book I read said 8 miles??).

I can't think of many off the top of my head, I know that JFK does have a couple of long runways, like Donder10 said...

JFK is the longest public one in the US at 14572ft, while there are a few military 15000 footers scattered around.

The longest civilian runway in the world is in Upington, South Africa and is 16021ft long (if I remember correctly).

The figure for Edwards AFB includes marked and maintained dry lakebed as an extension of the 15000ft long paved portion of the runway.

JFK's Runway 31L/13R is 14572ft long

EGGD, Edwards has 15,000x300ft paved, and another 8,000 or so, dry lakebed.

If you wanna talk about short runways, John Wayne Orange-County in Los Angeles has a 5700 ft runway, and they fly 757's in there...  Smile

YYC has the longest runway in Canada. It's over 12000ft. They are proposing a parallel runway of the same distance.

A long runway for a very small island in middle of nowhere must be IPC/SCIP Isla de Pascua. RWY is 10,827' long, all this for the only scheduled flight: Lan Chile 767 on the SCL-IPC-PPT route. The island is in fact a diversion airport for the space shuttle.
I've done once the flight planning for a charter flight going there, and the nearest alternate was PPT (Papeete)...2300 nmiles away! Really lost in the middle of the ocean.

Usairways85, I believe the one of the runways at ACY are 10,000+ feet long. They do have the FAA testing Facility but also they have an ANG F-16 fighter base out of there and I have seen KC-10s doing cycles of touch and gos out there. Look for commercial service to expand from there in the next few years.

cool, i often ride by ACY and see C-5A's and other military transports, as well as the F-16's. however i have also seen a usairways 330 probably testing there before it went into service and also i thought i saw a 747 parked there but i couldnt tell, almost looked like a 747-100 or a 747SP. yes it should be interesting to see new commericial flts there

The new Incheon International in Korea are pretty long.
13,123ft. Exactly 4.000001km.
YYCs the lognest runway in Canada thats for sure.
Its 12 675ft or 3.8k.  Smile

IM impressed with St, Maarthen thou, its runway is like 7000 foot and it gets 747s,A330s, and 757s..

I think Scipol has a long one as well. Kandahar airport used to be quite a length but its been split into 3-4 sections.

Expanding my global domination one spotter at a time..

In the United States I think LAS has the longest comercial runway followed by JFK, both are over 14,000 feet I believe. I might have mixed them up.

DEN I think is constructing a 16,000X3000 foot runway?

27 Post contains images BA : Don't forget, that the 16,000ft. runway is being built for the distant future in mind. They're planning ahead for the Super Jumbos (such as the A380).
28 Dg_pilot : Salina, KS (SLN) has a 13,300 ft. runway.
29 Afitch7881 : Ya, the 3000 I put was a typo, I ment 300 but now that I think of it I really ment 200 on top of that. Normal is width is 150 and now I remember seein

37 YHU : I believe Sydney Australia's 34L is 14850 feet long, again for the Space Shuttle. Anything longer is for "Hot & High" take-off requirements.
