Srilankan Summer Schedule Expands

For Srilankan Airilnes' summer schedule, frequencies to Dubai, Trivandrum, Kuwait, and Doha have been increased, the Gulf cities have been combined with other Gulf routes probably operating on a "circle route" basis. Kuala Lumpur goes up to five a week(as a stopover one the eight Singapore flights)
However, Bangkok gets a 4th weekly service (not operating through to Hong Kong) and London gets an eight flight: six non-stop and two via the Maldives.
I have always thought that after it lost 4 plans back in July 2001, that its remaining fleet was already operating to a very tight schedule. How can they "spare" extra hours for this London flight? As far as I am aware they are not getting back any lost aircraft in the near future.
Anyone know more?

Well, they rescheduled also the flights between CMB and Indian Destinations and saved time with this. For the uploaded schedule you can check www.srilankan.ch (timetable ready but site not finished yet).

I think there is also another flight to CGK operated via SIN and back Nonstop...

Cheers

Will the EK codeshares CMB-DXB-TGL & -ARN (op. by UL) be resumed during the summer season of 2002? If not... when(?)? (I assume that they will return).

Swissgabe, I had no idea that two of the three Jakarta-Colombo flights are non-stop on the return. I just checked their web site. I always thought they all operated to/from Singapore.
I think i read somewhere that the Emirates management will see how the traffic performance is for Summer 2002 first before committing to getting more aircraft back for Srilankan. They are under pressure from tourist and hotel groups for more capacity as there is now a shortage of capacity from Europe. Also, im sure they can lease in aircraft very cheaply now with aircraft being put in storage by other airlines.

Dear Gardermoan

Srilankan will be operating 3 times to Jakarta in S02. Out of the three svcs, 2 will operate CMB-SIN-CGK-CMB and the other CMB-SIN-CGKvv.

SriLankan has added the 8th frequency to LON effective 02JUL. The ninth frequency to LON will also be confirmed within the next few days to begin on 06JUL. The latter will be operated by an A330 on a Saturday.

Brgds

SriLankan

Hey Srilankan,

Where did you hear about the 9th London service? Do you work for them? That sure is good news if it happens.
But Im still puzzled, withouth any extra aircraft coming on line, can they spare all these extra hours for another London rotation? If it was India or the Middle East I could understand, as all it would take is a few hours to be cut here and there, but for another long haul service is a different question all together. I really thought the present fleet were flying their max hours as possible.

Hi Gardermoan

It is called good schedules planning! Just kidding!

There may also be a possibility of operating the 5th frequency to ZRH either on Tuesday or Wednesday . All with the existing a/c. Could do a lot more miracles if SriLankan had another A320.

Brgds SriLankan

as per my informations UL316 on days 3&4 are operated nonstop from JKT to CMB...

The avarage on air figures of ULs fleet is quite high. In average around 12hrs. This excluseds all ground services of the aircraft ig. boarding, embarking, cleaning, checks etc.

I think flights into Germany are just a question of time and a few problems have to be sorted out. A 9th plane (leased) would be great to fix ULs position on the actual network. I don't know if another A320 would be that usefull for UL since on most routes they have a high passanger demand. They might be usefull only on Indian routes as TRZ...

Yes, swissgabe, an extra aircraft would be ideal, but the Emirates management are waiting a few more months to see how summer traffic performs before making any word. With surplus airbus aircraft on the market they can easily lease one on favourable terms, im sure.
I also think getting frankfurt back is their next priority, after all, Germany is one of the top 3 tourist markets into Sri Lanka. Hopefully Rome will be back too. As for the "secondary" European cities, like Milan and Berlin, I dont think they will be rushing to these for a while yet.

If SriLankan will fly into Germany I would say they will fly into Berlin. Guess why...
Because EK has already flts into FRA/DUS/MUC and they would like to have them filled. Thats my opinion.

If the peace talk really are as they look and Sri Lanka gets peace after that hard time I think it will be undoubted that there is not enough capacity to serve Sri Lanka as national carrier. With the 40% and Management Control for the next 10 years EK wants to get some good money and doesn't want to invest to much into UL.

Hope they are doing good. Wouldn't it be great and imagine how fast they would expand (like Qatar Airways?) if they had the planes they lost back? Well hope they make money and get a few Airbus to entrench their current network.

Yes, it would be great to see them return to all their destination that are still missing. So far this includes: Milan, Rome, Berlin, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Sydney, Karachi and Dhaka. Also, if things go really well for the country and traffic surges upwards, hopefully Amsterdam and Vienna will be back.
