Just saw the new Cathay Pacific "Spirit of Hong Kong" on a Boeing 747-400. I think it looks great and gives great pride to the people of Hong Kong. Can someone please tell me what is the registration of this Boeing 747-400. I will be interested!

This aircraft has also been fitted with CX's new luxurious First Class which is doubt to be the best in the sky: the longest and the widest beds with a sense of space and comfort reflecting the modern Asian style.

The reg is B-HOX. The aircraft flew on a test flight today as CX6661. It departs for London tonight on CX251.

I wonder what the girl who designed it feels like, as it is nothing like what she designed. Cathay have changed it to be almost identical to the old Spirit of HK, except put pictures of kids all over it.

Not sure whether I like it yet.

I have seen the plane.. and yep it looked almost identical to the 747-200 they painted last time..

I've seen CX's homepage when the competition was taking place.. I thought ( correct me if i'm wrong ) that the plane was suppose to be rainbow colored? yellow and pink and stuff.. with the kids going over all the obstacles.. how come it changed quite a lot

i think the plane still looks nice.. other than LHR.. u know where else they will be flying it to?

Dear airline2000,

I can tell you that it does NOT feel proud to be the people of Hong Kong with that plane!!!!!!
I am totally disappointed with the CX design (not the girl's design) that finally got on the plane. The final design looks awkward and ugly (with the hk skyline background), and with those Japanese style cartoon characters. This design looks as if the painters painted the wrong scheme(the HKspirit97) on the plane, and was then too lazy to get the paint off , and so just stick some children characters on the plane.
As what I have seen in newspapers some time ago, the original winning design does not feature skyline background, but features a colourful gradient , from purple to blue to green to yellow and to orange ( from the tail to the nose), and also with fireworks instead of balloons and confetti, and with '2000' instead of a banner saying 'hong Kong'.
This plane is really a shame to Hong Kong and it seriously damages the image of Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific, I hope that Cathay would repaint this aircraft IMMEDIATELY in the 'original' colour or even the normal colour.

with regards,
Oxygen

Hi,
Personally i think it is quite OK, but really they should have a better design. Otherwise, WHY did they have the contest in the first place....what a waste of resources as well as the winner's time and effort.
There are many other nice designs to choose from like the ones made by Herpa and the dragon motive which was shown on their website.
Cathay should choose something more original from the people involved in the contest.

AND more ironically, the cathay pacific webpage says that the scheme was designed by the winner.

airline2000 and cxflyboy, i think it looks OK. it wasn't as good as some other liveries such as QF 744 wunala dreaming. but i'm sure it will be an attraction among everywhere it flies.
