I read somewhere that Virgin Atlantic was going to start service up again between London Gatwick and Toronto this spring or summer. Does anyone have any more info such as when this is starting, how often will the flights be , and what aircraft they will be using. Last year they used the 747-200 but I can't remember how often it was. Any info would be great...I am want to fly them to England when I go in July. Thanks!

Nothing is noted in the schedules all the way through May of 2003, in terms of service between Toronto and London on VS.

I couldnt say, but i would guess they would use a 340, seen as the jumbo's werent exactly full when they last did the route, from what i hear.

I dont know, why did they quit the route anyway? was it before or after "That Tuesday"???

They cut YYZ and ORD after "That Tuesday" Their loads were doing very well considering they had only been in the market for a short time, but the route was not expected to make money in the first year of operations by VS, and I guess after the 11th they chose not to carry that liability further....I did hear they wanted back in this summer, but nothing more on that front.

VS are looking at IAH and ATL but don't expect anything in the short-term. YYZ and ORD will get priority.

No announcement as of yet. I think the route is up in air. I'm sure eventually it will be reinstated, and I'd think it's quite safe to say YYZ will be back before anything else, even ORD. I am not an insider so I can only go by my "sources" hehehe but my "sources" are reliable. Sir Richard is on record as saying he would like VS to be back in Toronto by the end of 2002 but that doesn't mean it will happen. I would hope that the market picks up and they return to YYZ, or I will have to catch them via JFK again this summer. VS047/048 was quite convienient for me last summer when I flew it, no connections in NYC. Hopefully we will see Britain's Flag Carrier back sooner rather than later.

Go VS Go!

I hope the airline does re-enter Canada. I remeber the first flight to YYZ. Mr Branson was dressed as a Royal Canadian Mounted Polic officer. What a guy! Laugh out loud

By the way, what ever happened to Richard Branson's proposed Virgin Canada airline? I guess that never got off the ground, eh.

Chris,
Sir Richard never proposed any airline, he just floated the idea to the press when he announced the Toronto service in November 2000. No mention of that idea since, and I highly doubt it would ever get clearance by the Gov't.

Hehehe, nah, I actually stumbled upon VS for my first flight and boy was I ever pleasantely surprised. I caught the dayliner out of JFK on an A340 (Jetstreamer) and took BA back on an afternoon run, LHR-JFK on a 744 (Koguty Lowickie). VS beat them hands down, although BA was quite good, VS totally outperformed them and really suited what I was looking for in an airline. I stick with VS now, BA won't get my business longhaul if VS is available (which they always are for me). This is not mean to "bash" BA at all I just experienced much better service on all of my VS flights (5) than on any of my BA flights (1 l/h 1 s/h).

I haven't tried VS yet so I can't comment on them!

However I make it a point to fly BA to Montreal whenever possible, I would rather let them get my business. AC is way behind in terms of service and amenities!
