Around USD$3 million is believed to have been taken today in an armed robbery at London's Heathrow Airport - the second in five weeks.

The cash worth USD$3 million arrived in the UK on a South African Airways flight and was being transferred to a security van when it was hijacked by two men at 07.30 GMT today.

The driver is said to have been held up at knife-point before being made to take the van out of the airport. The men, described as Asian and in their twenties, forced the driver to drive out of Heathrow to nearby Cranford. It is believed the two men transferred the cash to another vehicle. The van driver is reported uninjured.

It is the second robbery at Heathrow in just over a month. On February 11, a gang held-up a security van in a "secure" zone airside at Terminal 4 and escaped with GBP£4.6 million. A man has been arrested in connection with last month's robbery. He remains in custody at a London police station.

A Department of Transport said of the latest raid: "Access to an airport's restricted area should be strictly controlled."
