Saudia Fleet Question

Can anyone please give me the number of B737-200 still operated by Saudia? Should be something around 10 if I´m not mistaken. Do they intend to replace them someday? Years ago they were said to have signed a LoI for 12 Avro RJ85 to replace the B732 but this was never confirmed.

11 including HZ-HM4 which is operated as a VIP aircraft.

Correcting myself. 9 732s are operated - including HZ-HM4.

They were or are in talks with Boeing about the 717 and 737NG. IMO it will be a political decision...and in these times Boeing has much more chance to win this one.

With the current political climate I would guess exactly the opposite. 95% of the saudia-arabian population does not have too warm feelings about the US - a political order could bring some troubles to the government. I would actually guess they´ll place an A32X order and offload their MD-90s.

I think Saudi-US relationship is not too cold nor to warm right now. It's just moderate relationship, the ties are not stronger as before.

Saudia still has 747SP, for VIP use. They also have Tristars, but not in passenger service.

I remember reading that the 732s were retained for certain routes to smaller airports in Saudi Arabia that could not easily accommodate the MD90s. While they, of course, must be replaced at some point, there have been few rumors about what will replace the 732; possibly one of the larger regional jets?
