Hi!
I have been looking at Hawaii lately, and I'm planning a trip for 14 days there. I LOVE Hawaii and I'd like to hear aout your trips to Hawaii. If you've ever been there, did you fly an airline? If so, which? How was the service, seating, pitch? What kind of plane, and could you stand being on that plane for 4-9 hours? Which islands did you go to and what was there to do there?
What are some interesting points and areas?
And above all, what made the experiance great (If it was..)?
Tell me EVERYTHING. I want to know from experiances. Thnx!

I flew from lax on continentals flight (1)I think, DC-10 non stop (wheres there to stop?)..this was about 5 years ago just when Continental was getting better,and it was an good flying experience..
Out of LAX you have your choice of UA,DL,AA,NW,ATA and of course Hawaiin.
All of them fly DC-10s L1011s and 747200s..757&767s go to maui and kauai on UA
I only went to Oahu which was very touristy and expensive in wakikki.(pardon my spelling) tons of japenese and american tourists. Catch an episode of the Real World on MTV and you'll see wakkiki. the North Shore (1 or so hrs by car) is great!
I hear kauai is great!
Since you like Delta fly the glorious L1011, or if you feel like being in a 737 for 4.5 hrs try Aloha out of Oakland!
have a great trip, adam

I have been to Hawaii four times. We always fly United to Honolulu (from Chicago), and then from there to whatever island we're headed for on Aloha. For a small airline, Aloha has very nice airplanes and the cabin crews are very nice. They use 737-200s, Dash 8s and Dash 6s (the latter two for sister carrier Island Air, they go to the "hidden" Hawaii) inter-island and (starting in Feb.) 737-700s to Oakland from HNL & OGG (can't be any different than a 757). All of Aloha's aircraft (except the Dash 8 and 6's) have first class seating too.

As for United, non-stop from ORD, it is a DC10-30. From California (LAX, SFO), it could be a 747-200, 747-400, 757-200, 767-300, 777-200, DC10-10 or DC10-30 depending on what island you go to. All of these planes are very nice aircraft, with nice crews. United will always be the friendly skies. They code-share with Aloha too.

For my four trips (and the one we will take next March), here are the routes & aircraft (*=first class, +=business, -=economy):

ORD-HNL UA DC10-30-
HNL-OGG UA DC10-30 (don't ask)-
OGG-HNL AQ B737-200-
HNL-ORD UA DC10-30-

ORD-LAX UA A320-200*
LAX-OGG UA DC10-10*
OGG-HNL AQ B737-200-
HNL-ORD UA DC10-30*

ORD-HNL UA DC10-30*
HNL-OGG AQ B737-200-
OGG-HNL AQ B737-200-
HNL-ORD UA DC10-30*

ORD-HNL UA DC10-30*
HNL-ITO AQ B737-200-
KOA-HNL AQ B737-200-
HNL-LAX UA B747-200+(upper deck)
LAX-ORD UA B757-200*

***PLANNED***
ORD-LAX UA B767-300*
LAX-HNL UA B747-200+(upper deck)
HNL-LIH AQ B737-200-
LIH-HNL AQ B737-200-
HNL-LAX UA B747-200+(upper deck)
LAX-ORD UA A320-200 (first class possible)

ORD=Chicago
HNL=Honolulu
LAX=Los Angeles
OGG=Kahului (Maui)
ITO=Hilo (Big Island)
KOA=Kona/Keahole/Kailua (Big Island)
LIH=Lihue (Kauai)

I went to Waikiki for Christmas, I would say it is worth the price you pay, just if you have lots of money to spend stay longer, I only stayed a week and I didnt do everything I wanted too, I also went to The big island on a tour, it was real nice.
I flew Hawaiian Airlines on a DC-10-10, the flight attendants were very nice, the food was good, and the seats were comfortable, I would fly Hawaiian again cause they have cheap tickets and you definitly get your moneys worth, oh yeah
but when I was leaving my flight didnt leave until 10:45pm and I got there at 6 to go and check in, and they let me on an earlier flight just so I wouldnt wait around, and they didnt charge the 75$.
If you fly interisland, stick with Hawaiian, Aloha is crap, their seats are real uncomfortable and their planes are dirty but thats I guess what you get for $40

I have flown Aloha a few times and while I admit they used to be a little, shall we say, dirty, now the planes and interiors are clean and nice.

I spent 5 weeks in Hawaii a couple of years ago.

My routing was:
AA763 JFK-LAX N372AA
AAD11 LAX-HNL-OGG N160AA
AQ73C OGG-KOA N806AL
AQ73S KOA-HNL-LIH N809AL
HAD95 LIH-HNL N679HA
AAD13 HNL-ORD N143AA
AAM82 ORD-LGA N440AA

My widebody AA flights were excellent, as usual. The Aloha flights were nice. I was a little bothered by Aloha's 737-200C because the seats are on pallets, they are above the window line, making it necessary to slouch. The Aloha interiors were clean and new deep blue leather on both occasions. I far preferred flying Hawaiian though. The bright pinks and oranges on the interior really give the sprit and feel of Hawaii. The bright colors gave the flight a fun, upbeat feeing. AQ seems to be rather drab by comparison. Inter-Island service is nice, fruit juice, peanuts, coke, or water only. Next time, Ill fly HA all the way interisland. The new 717s will be an amazing addition to the fleet.
