Air New Zealand has confirmed that becoming a low cost carrier is one of their options.........
I personally think that this will NOT happen. Air New Zealand is a top airline with high level of services (It was rated higher than Cathay Pacific, as well as Qantas in Sep 2001). It is the national carrier, as well as the one and only one carrier in New Zealand. If they lose their prestige, their reputation will be screwed...
They won't be stupid enough to ruin their image, as well as brand name as a low cost carrier.

The proposal only relates to routes of four hours flying time or less; ie, flights to the eastern seaboard of Australia most of the Pacific Islands.
Personally I can't see it happening.
Air NZ already has a low-cost option in Freedom Air.
They'd be mad to follow this through.

I hope that this does not happen.......good airline with great service.
With the Ansett mess behind them, NZ should simply go back to doing what it does best, provide high-quality long-haul service out of NZ and effecient domestic service within NZ.
