FAA proposes civil penalties
The Federal Aviation Administration announced four proposed civil penalties totaling $344,000 against The Boeing Company facilities in Long Beach, Calif., and Puget Sound. Immediate corrective action was taken with each issue upon discovery and none were deemed safety of flight issues. Two of these civil penalties were discovered during a routine FAA audit conducted in 1997 and 1998. The other two were supplier issues discovered in 1998 during an internal assessment and then voluntarily disclosed to the FAA upon discovery. It is standard practice FAA policy to issue press releases on civil penalties of $50,000 or more. Boeing is currently assessing the FAA’s proposed civil penalties and taking next steps toward a final resolution of these issues.
