In college today my lecturer was discussing whether a compressor blade produces lift or not?
It has an airfoil shape, curved on top and flat on the bottom therefor LP air on top and HP air on bottom.

Anyone have any other theories???

Yes, a compressor blade produces lift. If you look at a book entitled "The urbine Pilot's Guide" it discusses it in a lot of detail.

Agreed. Listen to your professor! (Just kidding - it's good to question things in this business.)

In the same way, a propeller blade be it turbine powered or piston powered produces lift as well. But not lift for the airplane, lift for the propeller in the forward direction. Same with a helicopter rotor. Same with the fan at the front of the turbofan. When you get into the inner workings of the jet engine though, the amount of forward velocity generated by the lift produced by individual blades is minimal when compared to the thrust generated and the power produced for the power turbine(s) i.e. the turbines that drive the fan.

Hope that makes sense.

Best Regards,
