At dinner time you can get a snack on a two-hour flight, say for example if you take a 500pm or 600pm flight LGA-ORD or ORD-DFW then you get a snack, either they give it to you inflight or you grab it at the gate upon boarding. In flight, you even have the choice between two different snacks even if you fly economy class! But you're right, if the flight is more than 3 hours then you definitely get a meal.

Are you sure about this? Most carriers including AA's competition on this route are no longer serving food in the main cabin on a flight of this short durtaion.

On a 2 hour flight in main cabin you will get a beverage and depending on the time of day, a pack of granola or a bag of cheese chip type things. On flights of 4 hours or more that are non transcons you get a bistro bag and on transcons you get the whole meal service, my advise, do like the crews do and bring your own food, at least that way you won't be dissapointed.
