CNN - Chicago - In a shock announcement, Boeing today annonced that it will call a halt to all commercial airplane production in 5 years. Phil Condit, CEO and chairman, issued a brief statement a few minutes ago saying that Boeing found the market volatile and that the halt is to coincide with 35000 job losses already anounced.

Yea, right. Things WILL change in 5 years. Remember how crowded the skies were supposed to get before 9/11. Check out the Sept. issue of Popular Science. And if Boeing decides not to step up to the task, someone else will. What will Boeing do, anyway?

I heard that Airbus will be following suit.... Presumably, Embraer will be taking over production of the Super Jumbo, renaming it the Super Jumbo Regional Jet.

A super jumbo RJ! I'm sure Delta will order enough of them to tie up the production line for at least the next 20 years as long as they don't carry more than 70 passengers so that Comair and ASA can have them. Will they have the range to make ATL-NRT/HKG non stop?
