747-100 House (ie Living In An Airplane)

I have spent the last several years designing plans for the interior re-orginization of a 747-100/200 to be used for the purpose of a residence. There are a variety of properties I have considered, however, I am unable to locate the person to contact to purchase the fuselage. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE OR HOW I CAN OBTAIN A USED DEAD FUSELAGE !PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Here are some of the spec.s on the 747-100H I've put together:

Length, width, height, all as normal.
Upper deck is a library with the cockpit's large windows used as a sun-lit reading area.
3-deck atrium runs from basement (cargo-hold) to library in upper deck, spiral staircase surrounding.
Forward area is master suite, with master bedroom incorporated into nose, king-size bed against front wall, TV where radar usually is sunk into wall.
Large living room with areas of floor sunken so eyes are level with windows, kitchen fits perfectly in 20 ft. wide fuselage, dining room the same.
2nd master suite at back end of airplane, similar construction/arangement. Family, entertainment, and sitting rooms as well as dining, breakfast, and casual dining rooms all fit easily in the 4000 square foot area.

Airplane is on a hill which makes it level above the ground as though it were on landing gear, which it obviously can't be since after a while they'd collapse and that's kind of insecure anyway. The hill has a garage in it (lower deck is used for storage - something which we all need more of - and walk-in freezing since I cook a lot, as well as my model shop since I'm a model freak). Engine casings (if possible) contain air conditioning units and other residence-necessities, as fit. Bulk cargo hold areas contain wiring and plumbing mains.
If I could figure out how I'd post partial blueprints here (designed using AutoSketch, similar to AutoCAD).

Well...I know what you are talking about, I saw a thing on the Sally show about 5 years ago about a woman who was talking to her realter friend about getting a new trailer, but that she didnt have the money. The realter said, "why dont you buy a plane" Ofcourse she thought it was crazy! She had him check into it, and there is many actually groups that sell scraped planes. He found a 727-200 for $2000.00. She then placed it on sortof a hill but a above the ground surface...On the '27 she uses the back staircase as her front door. One thing I can tell you...There will be no wings, no engines, no tail wings, or whatever the word is for those things right under the tail. So basically, it would just be the airplane. To find out about this, DEFINITELY contact a realty agency and ask around. You might try contacting some of the desert scrapyards like Marana (The biggest one out there) and see about that. You could contact your local news station and ask around there.

Your plans sound excellent!...The only thing i would change is have the master suite upstairs and have a whirlpool jacuzzi in the cockpit area looking out!!!--That would be cool...That is what the woman on the show did...She even had the people leave the control sticks in there and she incorporated them into the whole design. You could also use the underbelly as a basement/entertainment pool table area?

Yes, I know all about the lady in the airplane, which is where I got the idea from originally. And a lot of airplanes out there in the scrapyards still have wings, horizontal stablizers (there's your word), and rudders attatched... I'm aiming for one of those. Anyway, it never really occured to me to talk to a realtor, I didn't suppose they would have any idea what to do. But... I'll give it a shot and I'll put a post here if I ever get myself a nice ol' 747. Thanks!

I guess i spoke too soon!!!--LOL, yes, I would definitely consult a realtor, they would most likely know something. The thing about the wings, is that there is no way to transport it, you cant transfer a 170 foot wide 747 up a hill!!! Unless you want to spend mega-bucks!

I think nowadays, more people are getting use of retired aircrafts. Just like turning them into a restaurants, for example, a B-727 of CI turing into a resturant in Taiwan(Tapei I think), and a DC-10 resturant in Seoul, South Korea. I think it would be a great idea to turn airplanes to a house!I remember I read a newspaper article in Hong Kong a few years ago saying someone in the US bought an aircraft that crashed into his back yard from the airline and turned it into his house. Maybe you could try to make planes crash into your backyard to save some money

That B727 house-plane is in Benoit, MS. I saw a tour of it that was featured on the Roseanne show about a year back.

The woman bought the fuselage (ex-Continental B727-200 N88701) from The Memphis Group, a company that dismantles airliners at its Greenwood, MS site nearby. An article on them featured in Airways No.46 (Dec 99).

They do still sell fuselages - the only problem you'll have is moving it to the required site. The B727 woman was lucky in that she lived just a few miles away from the scrapyard.

A 747 has a wingspan of 201 feet (a 400s is 211), not 170...
I have always had confidence that it is possible to do just about anything if desired, and the 'hill' would be more of a 'mound' only as tall as the airplane normally sits above ground, so getting up there wouldn't be too much of a hassle since it could be built right under the airplane where-ever it is put. I haven't got a sight in mind, that would depend on where I bought the fuselage from. Yes, A3XX, it would be quite expensive, but the best plan I've thought of yet would be to transport the thing by helicopter (the gutted fuselage, without fuel, passengers, or cargo wouldn't weight too many tons).

If you are able to build a wonderful and cozy home inside of a 747-100....CALL ME! My goal is to live in one! It would be a bit impracticle for me but I cant let me dream die

Sounds like an awesome idea. Too bad you probably couldnt get one with the engine nacelles still intact. You could turn all four of them into storage space for cars. It would be a 747 with a 4 car garage. Haha. Good luck with it!
