With Humerside being my local airport, i thought id give u a pictoral run down of the planned summer activites from this increasingly busy regional airport.
CHARTER SERVICES
Humberside has gone from having no holiday flights ten years ago, to newrly 30 a week planned for this summer, with new flights to The Algarve, Corfu, Malaga, Malta and additional flights to Turkey and Cyprus, bringing the total to 14 destinations. The top 5 destinations are 1)Palma, 2)Tenerife, 3)Dalaman, 4)Alicante and 5)ibiza. It should provide some rare visitors.
Mytravel Airways - the largest UK charter user of HUY, operating the:
A320
to Dalaman, which has proved an increasingly popular destination over the years, and is now the 3rd busiest.
Britannia Airways - the largest UK charter airline, and in the past have operated 767 and 757 equipment from HUY, this summer they will be operating four weekly services out of HUY, using:
B737-800
Pegasus - Turkey's leading charter airline, operating from HUY for the first time this summer, to the very popular turkish resorts, it will face stiff competition from Onur and Mytravel this summer. It will use:
B737-800
Onur Air - Humberside's turkish resident for the last few years, operating for Sunquest holidays, and has used A300 and A321 equipment into HUY in the past. This year the flight is shared with Glasgow and operates with:
MD88
Development of charter services has been rapid and other charter airlines to have used HUY in the past include Sunways, Excalibur, LTE, Oasis, AirUK leisure and Dan Air. It is hoped that next year or the year after, Mytravel will base an aircraft at HUY for the summer season, to be shared with LBA and MME airports. HUY has pretty much reached its ideal destination list with the possible addition of the Costa Dorada in Spain, regular Malta flights, and another greek destination, so it just remains to build on the current routes for the future, and by all accounts, booking are good for the coming season.
SCHEDULED SERVICES
This summer will have the best choice in terms of scheduled flights for some time. Humberside has always had frequent services, but not to that many destinations. In the past, Euro Direct, Brymon, Gill airways (Air France) and British Airways but to name a few have come and gone. Destinations have included Brussels, Paris, Esbjerg, Norwich, Dublin, Belfast, Glasgow, London Heathrow, Birmingham and the channel islands. There have been several improvements to the schedule for this summer. Eastern are introducing routes to Edinburgh and Jersey, and KLM uk are adding a sixth daily frequency on the AMS route. There will be 3 scheduled airlines this summer flying to 4 destinations:
Eastern Airways - HUY's 'own' airline, and a locally based Jetstream operator. Eastern was originally set up to offer a service to Aberdeen after Air UK pulled off the route in the late 1990s. Services were operated with Metro aircraft, and these soon gave way to the Jetstream 31 and 32. Easterns schedule for this summer involves flying:
Jetstream 32
to Jersey *(saturdays).
Eastern also has a major operating base at Norwich, where an Embraer 135 a/c operates. There have been several rumours about what Eastern might add from HUY next, most notably, a Manchester service, but more prominent is a Belfast schedule, we shall see what this enterprising little airline can come up with next.
KLM uk - The other major scheduled operator at HUY. KLM uk were formerley known as Air UK and have operated in the past from HUY to London Heathrow, Esbjerg and Edinburgh to name a few. They were recently taken over by KLM and are earmarked for full integration into KLM cityhopper. In the past they have operated Fokker F27 and 100 equipent and the loveable Shorts 360 and 330. Nowadays, hundreds of connections are offered via Amsterdam Schiphol, KLMs home base. KLM uk fly:
Fokker 50
Gama Aviation - A small Aberdeen based operator, which recently turned its oil charters to Aberdeen into shceduled services. It operates Beech King Air aircraft on 3 daily schedules to ABZ.
With passenger figures approaching half a million/year, HUY is going from strength to strength. New scheduled destinations on the airports' 'wish list' are Belfast, Brussels, Dublin and Paris, with a possible London link aswel. It has also been rumoured that VLM will expand at HUY in the future, firstly converting the Jersey series into scheduled flights and adding destinations after that.
We shall see, but HUY has a lot going from it, and the main attraction seems to be that, once you've tried it, you go back again and again!

the catchment area is large for HUY. It stretches from Scarborough and York in the North, accross to Sheffield, Doncaster and Scunthorpe in the West, Lincoln, Boston and Kings Lynn to the south and Grimsby and Cleethorpes to the East, but the largest 'supplier' of pax is Kingston-Upon-Hull, approx 15 miles to the north, easily accessible by the Humber Bridge.
