Could this possibly mean SQ is pulling some strings within VB with the eventual move to a full service carrier?

Does this then open the way for Branson to start another low cost airline in Australia?

What we are watching now is the lull before the Virgin
Blue storm, we only have to wait a 10 days for the
decision on whether it's the 737 or the A320, also
expect a result on the former Ansett terminals, as
to a full service airline on the main trunks, watch this
space, IMHO SQ is about to make it's move.

It's a shame they couldn't agree to merge with Ansett as a full service airline & maintain VB as a separate low cost carrier to compete domestically and now perhaps with Australian on "leisure" routes.

Hopefully, these changes will also bring about a new classier livery.

Had a look at your pprune posting when I got home, still can't access it from the AN network.
I don't see how DJ can immediately lease 10 A320's.
Most of the SALE A320's are up for checks except HYC. The rest are currently missing engines, apu's and components. When time permits we are trying to match original components to the aircraft as they were delivered.
Coupled to this is the fact that 2 major checks are currently being carried out on HYL (AWAS) and HYX (GATX) This ties most if not all manpower up.
The next 2 checks at this stage are HYS and CZN 733, both owned by a mob called Region air.
It really doesn't leave much to pick from when you take into account the aircraft that have left the country - HYA, HYB, HYR, HYT, & HYY. HYL is set for a desert vacation and HYX is off to Air Malta.
But then again maybe the journo is right. In 10 days the hanger may have to revert to full 24 hour operations again.

The Question is, why can't Boeing ramp up the production if they have got this many orders, crazy!

Perhaps Lang is twisting Huttners arm on the A320's as they are better than the 73's with regards to freight operations. Don't forget that AN has a huge amount of freight handling equipment and containers for the A320.

Well it could be great news for the A320 drivers!!

Let's hope we get to keep the A320 in Australian skies.

And Wirraway, I agree, SQ should be showing it's hand very soon.

I agree with you on the fleet change. It would have to be an incredible deal offered by Airbus. One thing that would fall into place though is maintenance. AN has a fully tooled up A320 facility. There is not much locally for the 737NG. I have heard that Jetcare will not renew there maintenance contract with DJ as well. It's up for grabs in September with a 6 month change over period.

Although the A320's will fit more in cargo wise they are still not containerised.

As for SQ showing it's hand, I'm still hearing July.

Like Mx5 I thought the A320 handled containers as
well, thanks for the input, never too old to learn.

I put a poll up at PPrune, "Your Gut Feeling What Aircraft
DJ will go for", so far looks like about 75% think it will
be Boeing, Richard Branson is due in Australia next
week, so I guess he will make the announcement who
has won.
