I'm going on a summer study abroad program to Cuba, leaving in late May, and according to them there will be a charter flight taking us directly from New York to Havana. However, no one seems to know what carrier this will be with, and I'm very curious. Does anyone have any idea of what this flight might be? Who does charters out of the US to Cuba? Thanks for any help.

What day are you flying? I read something about Continental operating flights on Saturdays from New York to Havana . By the way enjoy the beautiful island of Cuba it's an amazing country with wonderful people.

I'll be flying on the 25th of May. So, are the Continental flights that you mentioned a charter sort of thing? I guess they would have to be. I always thought that it was completely illegal to fly a direct US-Havana flight, but I guess not, considering we're doing it.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of great things about Cuba. I'm very excited for it.

Yes these flights are called scheduled charters and they are not illegal . Other airlines fly from the U.S to Cuba mostly from Mia for example United, Continental, Continental Connection (Gulfstream International), American, Mexicana, Falcon Air from LAX I think Taca or Copa operates the flight. And from New York I think Continental is the only airline operating the flight.

After some searching, I found mention of it on COs site. They operate a 733 every Saturday through some charter company who is licensed to fly to Havana. Very interesting. Thanks for the tip, Chepos. This is probably what my flight will be. Now what I'm wondering is, do any other airlines do this sort of thing, or is it just Continental?? Does anyone happen to know?

I was hoping that, due to high demand, they would use a 764 or something. Would have been cool.  Laugh out loud

United uses a 777 on the MIA-Havana flight, or at least it used to.
