Hkgspotter1,

I'm very surprised at you with that statement. I didn't think you would be that gulable. Check out the urban legends site mentioned above. The facts make much more sense than the bullshit.

I like the Carl Sagan quote:

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof."

If you've never read his book The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark I highly suggest it. It is in this book he introduces his "Baloney-Detector."

Okay, some people aren't getting the jist of my starting this thread.

The url I posted above (http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/blflight77.htm) debunks and disproves the ridiculous "Find the Boeing" web site in hopes of laying the (dead horse) issue to rest. Hence the "R.I.P." in the title. Yes indeed, many, many people posted comments about this consipracy web site. It was becoming a running joke to regulars here in the Civil Aviation forum. I frequent the Urban Legends section of About.com's website regularly. It's a great resource. When I saw the aforementioned url, I figured posting the link here would be helpful.

Is that clearer?

What's that there in the foreground? Looks like the remains of an aircraft to me.

R.I.P. to all the victims of that flight. I'm willing to bet that if a relative of the conspiracy theorist was on that flight...THAT web page would probably be honouring the victims.

are their any photo's or video's of a plane aproaching and hitting the building?

after the twin towers crash their where many amateur video's..
you should think a very touristic building like the pentagon would have 1 or 2 people with a camera near by..

That Urban Legends is a fine site, doing a great job debunking crap.
Part of the problem today is that mass communication technology makes people expect, no demand, they see absolute proof of everything, never mind a majority would be unsure in many cases of what they are looking at.
Hey, there's no definite film of the Titanic going down, must be a hoax then if you extend the conspriracy nut's logic.
The Pentagon was designed to withstand heavy bombing, which when it was constructed was thought to be inevitable in any war, even in the US.
One of the passengers on the aircraft was Barbara Olsen, a journalist and TV colunmist for CNN, if it's all a big hoax where has she been since Sept. 11th?
As well as all the other passengers and crew?
Remember, you only saw the first aircraft actually hitting the WTC because it was caught by chance by a French team making a film about the NYFD, who were checking for a gas leak when the aircraft roared overhead.
By the time the second aircraft hit, the media were already out in force, as well as people with their camcorders, and camermen from emergency teams.
But the best filter for conspiracy theories is your own common-sense, and being objective.

Everyone has their own opinions, so you cannot lambast someone for believing in conspiracy theories.

As far as i'm concerned, i've didn't believe in the pentagon stuff from day one, never will unless someone gives me concrete proof.

Remember, nearly every conspiracy theory is started by those with a particular axe to grind.
For instance, those in the Arab world who hate the US really do think that Israel carried the Sept.11th attacks, Jews who worked at WTC were apparently all told to take the day off.
Problem is, it aint true, hundreds of Jewish people died in the WTC, it doesn't even withstand the most basic scruntiny.
But many of these sort of theories come form the Neo-Nazi Tim McVeigh fanclub in the US.
Care to align yourself with them? Taking any of this stuff seriously means you are, even if only indirectly.
No footage of UA93 either, and isn't that a rather small hole for a 757 to make in the ground?
Of course it isn't.
I challenge anyone who believes the frankly offensive nonsense about the Sept.11th aircraft to answer the points in my previous post on this thread.
You can lambast adults for beliving this stuff, just as much as you can for them still believing in Father Christmas.
Pretty much the same level.

BlatantEcho you bring up an interesting subject. That Fox special almost made me cry. I can't even imagine how someone would want to question this. This was a proud accompishment for all of mankind by getting to the moon. The astronauts brought back moon rocks. It Apollo 13 fake too? Yeah right. The people who think that we didn't go to the moon have some problems, just like the same people who don't think that flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon.

Let's take a look at some facts. American flight 77 took off and was hijacked. Then it crashed into the Pentagon, plain and simple. If it didn't crash into the Pentagon then where is the plane now? The plane is unaccounted for and it is gone. It's history.

Take Care,

Dripstick, I almost really did bash my head in the computer last night...

My concern with conspiracy theories has less to do with the outlandishness of their claims and more with the gullibility and lack of incredulity of those that give them credence. With the advent of e-mail, I've been flabbergasted by how many of my friends fall for the chain letters and hoaxes that propagate. That ridiculous "Tourist Guy" photo was the kicker. If anyone thought that was real, they should not leave the house.

I really like About.com's site and have it bookmarked. I check it whenever I get an e-mail I am skeptical about. I wish everyone would.

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinion. My hope is not to silence anyone. But, instead, to raise the level of awareness and healthy suspicion that I see deteriorating in our sensational, ratings driven news culture.

That's all.

ER

BTW: Another website I like is James Randi's. He has somehow made a career of debunking claims of the paranormal. I especially like his "Million Dollar Challenge." (http://www.randi.org.)
