hey guys

I have never bother to request seats in Y class with Singapore Airlines. I did so when I flew them J class last year as I knew it could be done.

I heard that it is possible to do so in Y class too?

is this true? if so how far in advance can one request them? Can you request an actual seat (i know not emergency exits).

Also does anyone have tips for going about trying to get a bulkhead seat/ emergency exit seat requested for in advance?

thanks guys!

I think you can request Y class seats from SQ. There is no time limit- it can be done at any time once the seats have been booked.
As for emergency exit seating- that may be a different matter. Some airlines permit those seats to be reserved in advance, others keep those seats under the local airport's control- you will have to ask SQ reservations. If the latter is the case, unless you know somebody at SQ at the airport, you will need to arrive at check-in well and truely early.

If you are a KrisFlyer / PPS member, you can check in online and select your seat even in Y Class.

Sorry, I must go to school. More later.

From what I recall, you can request forward, rear, window, aisle (and get whatever happens to be allotted, irrespective of your request, which is usually totally ignored). In J Class you can request specific seats, and I've always been allocated the ones I requested, but I was Star Alliance Gold at the time, and I guess that helped.

If you're an ordinary Y class pax you only get to choose "window" or "aisle" at the time of booking/ticketing.

On Malaysia Airlines and Thai Airways Intl thou you get to choose ANY Y class seat you want at the time of booking/ticketing subject to availability.

cheers

If you do an online check-in, the system will assign you a seat first, and you have to option of taking it. If you're not happy with the assignment, it allows you to change your seat by presenting you with an seating layout.

Just click on the seat that you want (the ones that are already taken will be of a different colour) and off you go. I had to opportunity to use this feature in Feb this year, and managed to get myself an emergency exit row seat.

As for seat reservations at the time of booking, you can only request for specific seats (if you know the number) within 6 months of departure.

Hope this helps.

cheers!

Andrew

Oh really? Well that's good. It's a shame that not many people know that.
