Actually, they'll be gone sometime in Sept, when the summer schedule ends! Better news... 1 extra month to fly them. I treasure each flight when I get on them... I hope to get on one of the last flights this year. The -30s will be around for a while yet... most will go as the 330s arrive but pre 9/11 the plan was to keep 12 around for Hawaii and high density domestic stuff. The -40s retirement is accelerated, so who knows what will happen with the -30s.

Azjubilee--you are right about summer schedule, but I have this sneaky feeling that as soon as the kids get back to Class on Labour Day, which Falls on Monday Sept 2nd this year, and the pax load counts drop that we will start seeing equipment substitutions with 757 and A320's taking over the domestic segments of NW Flight 1 and 2. Northwest has always been willing to quickly adapt its equipment to the load, especially if perhaps a long in the tooth -40 needs some extra maintenance--why do it just for the sake of running the a/c for another 3 weeks. I would hate to book this route in September and be disappointed at not flying the big 3 holer. For a last chance at flying this beast, it may be safer to book earlier than later.

The 757-300's are replacing the DC-10-40's, not the A330.

The A330's are going to replace the DC-10-30's.

Transwede - I never said the 330s were to replace the -40s. Read my post again. I am quite aware of the fleet plan and the general direction of NW thank you.

Looks like the DC-10 is replacing the A320...I just took NW1 to LAX on 3/28, and it was an A320-200. DC-10 probably in response to increased summer demand to Southern Cal.

I get to fly on the DC-10-40 on the 18th of may from SEA - DTW. Wow I didn't know there are only a few short months for this beauty to be around!

Will they bring them up to ANC like they did last summer? I sure hope they do!

If you missed the last NW DC-10-40, there are still those from JAL available. They're scheduled for retirement in 2005.

NWA MAN - 320s are not replacing the DC10-40 fleet. They may take over flying on a specific sector, due to demand, but as a fleet, the 757-300 is replacing the DC10-40.

Dmitry - one roundtrip MSP-ANC DC10 is in the summer schedule... its the 9am departure from ANC.

Transwede - no problem...

I dunno of the routings for the 753, but I'd guess that the 752s will do the job for this summer. Perhaps next summer ANC may see the 753.

Take advantage of the great May fares for a last ride on the 10-40's. I am sure that by June when school lets out it will be hard to find a 267.00 for 7+ hours trip on a classic.

If the A330 were to come in before Sept. 2 i bet NW would start replacing the dc-10's sooner. Here in Michigan the public schools start anytime after 15th. I have friends in the Grand rapids area who has a brother who starts the 15th of August and I know in the Detroit area where i grew up it keeps getting earlier and i think the last week in August is when the Metro Detroit area starts up. So the summer heavy loads end sooner here. But thats not to say that the rest of the country is like that. I understand what is being said don't get me wrong.
I have my DC10-40 flight booked just yesterday as i travel to Hawaii this summer and come back early August. Nice to know that will be one of the last fights on a NW dc10-40.
