Everyone thinks the way US Airways has positioned its hubs is so weird!

Well, US Airways is not like other major airlines.

Part of the reason US AIRWAYS' Hubs are set up the way they are is because US AIRWAYS' is the product of many mergers and acqusitions.

But their hubs, which are all on the east coast are not really meant to connect traffic from the entire nation, they are meant to connect traffic across the east coast.

With hubs at Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Mini hubs at Baltimore, Washington National, Boston, and La Guardia, (just to name a few) US AIRWAYS' has the strongest presence in the east than any other major airline.

With all their hubs and mini hubs US Airways offers 5,000 flights a day, and practically all their flights are all on the east coast! Airlines like AA and UA have many flights all over the world but only have between 2,000-3,000 flights a day. (These numbers include regional airline flights.)

US AIRWAYS IS THE NUMBER 0NE AIRLINE ON THE EAST COAST WITH THE MOST FLIGHTS AND THE MOST CONVEINENT SCHEDULES, and its all possible because US AIRWAYS' doesnt only have one or two majorly congested hubs in the east they have fortress hubs and hubs, and mini hubs all over the east coast!

By the way, United serves WAY more that 2,000-3,000 flights a day. You have to include code share, such as in our case, STAR ALLIANCES, and Express, and Shuttle, that in and of itself is about 3,000+ flights, so you might want to rethink that. Also, we have Atlantic Coast airlines, serving many of the same routes as USAirways on the east coast, which really gives you something to think about. If our express can just about match many of USAirways flights, we must be REALLY big. USAirways should try and make other hubs, it may draw more attention and publisity. they should chose a somewhat small airport, that can take 757's or even 767's kinda like National somewhere like Tenessse ya konw what I mean? By the way, they have a great new color scheme though!

I think they should kill BWI, DCA and possibly LGA, just fly from there to hubs. Then, they should get a hub in the south, like in Pensacola or something, and one in the west.

I live near Philadelphia and have flew to many of Us Airways' hubs. US Airways has it set up so they can conquer all other airlines on the east coast, and THEY DO! They also have daily numerous non-stop flights to cities on the west coast and midwest, which helps balance the airline by not overloading the east coast with flights.

Thank You for your imput, everyone

Slots at La Guardia, Boston and Washington National are very limited, very hard to obtain, and very expensive, US Airways has the most slots at these airports so it would not be in their best interest to kill their mini hubs there, other airlines would kill for US Airways' presence at those cities.

US Airways needs to focus on cost containment not expanding in the west.

The only place I think US Airways should expand is to Europe, and they are doing just that, they are getting new A330-300s, and they are fighting for new routes all the time! In the mean time, most of transatlanctic traffic, 70% to be exact comes from the east coast where US Airways has the strongest presence than any other airline so the small 767-200s they are flying on flights to Europe are flying nearly full all year around and making lots and lots of money! Their survice to and from europe is also superb, I have flown on them and I have flown on AA to europe and the difference between the two airlines was like night and day. sorry AA lovers:-(

SIZE NO LONGER MATTERS IN THE AIRLINE INDUSTRY
THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS MAKING A PROFIT!!!

ERAU makes an excellent point. US Airways is not focusing on the west coast. They are focusing on Europe, because that's where the money is!

I keep seeing people write comments like "they should open a hub in my city" and "they should expand on the west coast." Well, folks, I hate to tell you this, but these people have been in the airline industry, and they know what works. We don't have half a clue compared to them.
