Hi all! I was just wondering if anyone knew when airlines were going to start receiving the 717, and which airlines are going to buy it.

This forum has really grown alot, since the last time I have been here!

See ya later,

AirTran will get the first batch of 717s starting this year. They will get the first one in the early summer if I am correct.

I belive TWA has put in an order, and I think this would be great for USAirways. I do not belive United will purchase them because we are using the 737 and 727 for small capasity flights. We usually stick to wide bodie's or planes that cary lots of people, such as 757's.

The first five 717-200s are in final assembly in Long Beach, California, at the Douglas Products Division of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group. When T-1, the first flight test 717-200, takes off, it will represent the combined efforts of a global team of supplier-partners in the United States, Europe and Asia working toward a single goal: to produce a new airplane with the highest quality at the lowest possible acquisition cost.

Launch customer AirTran Airlines is scheduled to begin taking deliveries in 1999. Eighteen customers in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East contributed their experience to the design of the 717-200. Passengers and cabin crews will enjoy the 717-200's spacious, all-new interior featuring five-across economy-class seating, illuminated handrails, spacious overhead luggage bins for carry-on baggage, the largest windows of any 100-seat jetliner and vacuum lavatories.
