Gulf Air, Oman Air join hands
Oman Air, the Sultanate's national carrier, and Gulf Air, of which Oman is a part-owner, yesterday joined hands to promote the Falcon frequent flyer programme.
"We are proud to welcome Oman Air as a major partner in our programme. The synergy it will create in delivering seamless frequent flyer benefits is bound to pave the way for greater cooperation between the two airlines," Robin Middleton, Gulf Air's head of worldwide sales, told reporters.
"We will continue to build this partnership and will shortly be announcing a major deal with a leading bank in Oman," he said.
Mohammed Al Shikely, Oman Air's senior marketing manager, said the move was the result of a recent survey, adding the code-sharing agreement between the two airlines has already seen interline billing increase from $2.5 million to $6.5 million in a short period of time.
"To celebrate this launch, Oman Air will offer double bonus miles over and above the normal entitlement for travel on services until July 31,2002."
Gulf Air's Falcon Frequent Flyer Programme, which was launched in 1994,the first of its kind by a Middle Eastern carrier, has over 130,000 members in 130 countries and is growing at the rate of 25 per cent per annum, said Middleton.
Falcon awards one mile for every mile flown in economy class, two in business class and three in first class.
"Some discounted fares are also eligible for a reduced mileage award, not to mention redemptions. A free round trip covering the GCC states costs only 6,000 Falcon miles.'
Shikely said Oman Air, which was established in 1993, was busy spreading its wings. It will start flying to Zanzibar this month and Mombasa and Beriut in June.
It touches all major Gulf destinations, including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and operates to Mumbai, Chennai, Trivandrum and Kochi in India. Efforts are on to resume services to Pakistan.
Abdulrehman bin Harith Al Busaidi, executive president of Oman Air, said wide-bodied aircraft such as the Airbus 330 and Boeing 767 would be introduced shortly.
