Has anyone heard or seen anything about cabin design changes for the new A340-500/-600? I know the cockpits are virtually the same but weren't they going to update the cabin. I have to say that whathever one says about the 777/A340 debate, Boeing's 777-style interior is really ingeneous. I was wondering if Airbus was going to go for a similar redesign on their newer A340s (not exactly like 777 of course, but perhaps one that lifts the overhead compartments higher to give better head clearance).

I've heard so too but have seen only computer graphics so far - which is surprising since F-WWCC is fitted with a full interior... perhaps my colleagues that are on this week's route proving flights will bring home some snapshots...

You mention that the cockpits are virtually the same, but do note that the display screens are now all LCD flat screens, which is, I believe, a significant improvement.

F-WWCC's cabin interior has not got the centre carry-on-baggage stowage bins. The outter bins are there though, but I can tell you it looks very nice and wavy, similar to those found on the 77 I flew. It looks very spacious. I have seen photos from my friend before, when it came to Hong Kong.
