Hi MEX spotters. I have a few questions for you:

Has anyone of you have trouble with the police while spotting or taking photos at the domestic terminal parking lot roof?

Is it possible to spot at the side of the airport that faces Texcoco?

Regards

Hi,

I had problems with police in the International parking lot about a year ago and I gave him 10 pesos (about 1 dollar) and he let me stay for 40 minutes.

The best place to spot in my opinion is out side the subway station "Hangares". There you are outside so police can`t tell you to leave and you have an excellent view. Many people gather there to watch airplanes, including me sometimes when I have time.

Regards,

Archie

Hy,
Well spotting on Mexico City has a lot of problems, not only with the police, what is a little sad but what ever.
First you can’t stay on the international parking for more that 5 minutes or you will have a police officer around you so if you haven’t a car get away before he comes, a guy that works there explain to me that is a security form after Sep. 11th.
Second, on HANGARES well, the please is beautiful for arrivals on 05R but not for 05L, departures are good on 05L and 05R without problems, mhhhh well you have some cables, cars, and a lot of people but, any robber is over there so don’t worry, there is a people bridge where you can catch aircrafts taxi on “B” to the runways 05L/R. But when the actives runways are the 23’s there is a good opportunity to catch B727 and stuff like that but a B757 is hardly to catch, however on Hangares and in the bridge you won’t have problems with the police officers.
But if you are searching to get into the airport and catch more nearly the aircrafts you will have some problems, first you must get an order to let them to enter you to the federal zone.

I took 2 times into the airport and I had the aircrafts no more than 20meters away from me so  Smile

I don´t know if you´ve seen the bridge that is next to McDonald´s but there is one of the best places to take pictures.
Also the parking lot in the Domestic terminal is good but not vey good.
In "Hangares Rd." just in the final approach for airplanes landing at 05R the view is great and you also have a good view of 05L.
However is strongly recomend that you go to the bridge next to McDonald´s and it is better if you go with someone cos´is not very safe specially if you have a big camera.

Eduardo,

Hi, the police being all over you in the parking lot is not post Sept. 11th. The have been doing that for a very long time. For years actually.Maybe it´s a little more strict, but it´s not new.
I do like the bridge also, but as it was stated it is not the safest place. Hangares is excellent, and if you go at around 6:00pm you will catch all the European jumbos and the Air France 777.

Regards,

Archie
