I just saw for the first time two new SAS Airbus 340s at Newark today. They look absolutely stunning. The color scheme is unusual in that it looks different depending on the light conditions. Very elegant!

I was curious what people think of the scheme.
When it first came out, there was negative criticism, and i didn't like it either, but with time, and espeically after seeing it LIVE, it has grown on me
what do you think?

Yesterday's Copenhagen-flight from Newark was cancelled and that was probably the reason why you saw two A340s at the same time there.
Somebody who knows why it was cancelled?

About the colours then....I think it looks amazing.
One of the most elegant plane flying around now.

Filip, I wouldnt say that SAS change colours all the time. The older livery has been around for quite some time now.

i completely agree. for me, the A343 is the most elegant bird in the SAS livery is the most elegant one. so this is a stunning combination. but wait to see the interior: light, bright colours, looks very roomy and clear. and have a look at that bathroom...

The new SAS livery is superb, I think it's much better than the old bland one. The 'SAS' name really stands out, and the colour scheme that they use is such that it looks different depending on the light. It took a while for the new livery to grow on me, but now I love it. I hope to see it in person one day!!

I think it's a great colour scheme, absolutely stunning on an A340, I'd say it's the most elegant plane in the smartest clothes!!

btw, the reason the flight from Newark was canclled, was due to severe turbulence that the outbound aircraft experienced. According to two online newspapers, 7 passengers were injured, and there might have been some damage to aircraft itself, which is probably why they had it stay at Newark.

CPH-R:
7 passengers injured?

This is not so common - does anyone has more information about the incident? From which newspapers you read it? Swedish-Danish-Norwegian are also OK  Big grin

The crew told passengers to fasten their seat belts because of the turbulence. 5 of the injured were crew, while 2 passengers who hadn't fastened their belts were injured.....

This photo here (as posted by Air Taiwan) really does accentuate the beauty of the A340s form, and the SK colours in the right light. It captures the tension of takeoff, as the A340 glides into the sky.

I like the bmi 330s as well. These liveries are fresh and make our skies just that bit more interesting.

Boy I feel bad saying this since everyone here seems to think it's such a great look but I still don't like their livery.. for all the reasons I didn'tlike it in the first place.

-The colours themselves are meaningless and represent nothing about Scandinavia (at least to my feeble North American knowledge).. but I guess it can rightfully be argued that it doesn't have to..

-The font on the fueslage is totally different and clashed with the bold font on the tail. I suppose this is considered innovative, I just think it looks mismatched. The old "Scandianvian" script was just fine... so either go with the old in full or with the new in full (font for fuselage and tail)

-The grey/off white(?) fuselage colour doesn't blend well with the white/grey (?) "Scandianvian Airlines" script on the fuselage.. sometimes in photos you can barely read it. In fact the "Scandinavian Airlines" wording is really too thin and small to read easily. From a marketing perspective I don't think that would be beneficial for self promotion but the term "SAS" is well known so I guess it doesn't matter all that much.

-The red engine - ok I'll give in here.. at first I thought they looked ugly but I must admit now they are appealing to me.. and really only because of the A340 where they are very distinctive..

...so I am coming around on this but it's a long slow pull  Smile Smile Smile No offense to anyone out there especially the SAS fans. Regardless of how I feel they look I still know they are an excellent airline and I'd fly them any day if I was lucky enough to.
