I had my sleep interrupted and I couldn't go back to sleep so I checked todays news and I read the following.

KB Cheung, SQ's Gulf manager was on a breif visit to Qatar yesterday. Chuang said that Singapore Airlines will increase its daily flights to DXB to 10x weekly starting in December. Singapore Airlines is also seriously studying the proposal to fly to DOH (Doha, Qatar) and other destinations in the Gulf as an extension of the DXB flights because of "tremendous demand". Meanwhile, Cheung said SIA is also exploring the possibility of increasing its cooperation with various GCC-based carriers. The airline, he said, prefers to enter into pro-rate deals as they are simpler to execute instead of code-share agreements.

-Can anyone elaborate more on this?
-Also, what equipment will SQ use in the three extra flights?

Since the DXB flights are operated by the 777-300 aircraft, the DOH extension would probably be on the 773 as well.

There is also an extension to IST from DXB as well, with the 773.

Great news...everything out of DXB seems to need extra capacity!! It would be great to see SIA expand in the Gulf.Infact once in 1993 i flew SQ from DXB to KHI on a B747-300(big-top)....thats when the DXB and KHI were linked with the same flight. Where other then DXB is SQ flying to these days in the Khaleej?

Royal Brunei will relaunch Bahrain service this June, as BWN-DXB-BAH.

Looks like Dubai's market is really big. Every airline want to have their share.

SQ MidEast flights:
4x 773 SIN-DXB-Istanbul
3x 773 SIN-DXB-Cairo
3x 772 SIN-Jeddah (or maybe still using A343)
2x 772? SIN-Karachi-Lahore-SIN
2x 772? SIN-Lahore-Karachi-SIN
They used to fly to Dhahran (enroute to Istanbul), but now the Istanbul flights go via Dubai and Dhahran has been swapped to Jeddah. Some 10 years ago,SQ also flew to Abu Dhabi via Colombo

I read on another newspaper that Singapore Airlines has seen an increase of 126% of the number of PAX flying on the DXB-SIN flight that are originating in DOH. SQ has eperienced similar growth Gulf wide and is also considering flights to BAH, KWI and MCT aswell as DOH either as extentions of existing flights to the Gulf or through new non-stops.

There definitely seems to be the demand for DOH, so a SIN-DXB-DOH route should turn out be profitable route. The thing is with Singapore Airlines, once they consider a new route, it doesn't take long for them to launch it!!

Doha is also a good choice because that's where the Asian games will be held. I guess Singapore Airlines wants to grab a share of the rising travel demand in the Middle East. Good for them.

SQ recently upgraded all flights out of DXB to B773. A while back it used to be 3X weekly 773 flights and 4X weekly 772 flights.

Now they fly only B773's to DXB, three times a week the flight continues on to IST, and the other four times it continues on to CAI.

Actually back in the early 1980s (almost 20 years ago), Singapore Airlines used to fly B747-200s on its Europe- Dubai-Colombo-Singapore runs. I can vaguely remember flying on one of these flights.

Zizou, you remember right.

In 1983 I flew Copenhagen-Athens-Dubai-Columbo-Singapore on a 747-200/100.
