I've seen some fantastic shots of aircraft coming and going out of Logan on this site (THANKS LOCALS!). I'm dying to see some of these sites first hand. Please tell me where I can do some spotting near Logan. Just a thought....... I was on an AerLingus A330-300 flying out of Shannon last month where I saw some people spotting on the other side of the fence at the throttle-up point. I was jealous! That's how bad I want to spot.

If you're looking for a place inside the terminal, you should go to the United Express gate. Here, they have the J41 departures to JFK. Also near these gates, United has a gate used for the London Heathrow flight, and another for the hourly Washington Dulles flights. Not sure the gate number, but just look for the terminal with TWA, some UA flights, and old Business Express flights. Go to the end of that. Nice big windows, excellent sunlight, all the international planes taxiing past you.

Good Luck
Matt

Anyone who wants close up shots of jets coming in and going out of Logan International has to go to Castle Island in South Boston. That is THE PRIME viewing area outside of actually being at the airport. The top of the parking garage at Terminal B is another great viewing place as well.

Although I doubt you would want to be outside today, it is 1 degree farenheit here in Boston currently!

For a far more distant, but totally bird's-eye view of how the whole airport and airspace works, try the observation deck of the John Hancock Tower. Too far away to get detail of planes, but on a clear day, you are a spectator to the whole ballet.

I have had good luck at Winthrop's "Point Shirley" (but as always be respectful to the neighbors..car noise, aviation/police scanner volume low etc.) it is a nice view of R27 arrivals/R9 departures..

I definitely would go for Level 5 of the Terminal B parking garage. From up there you can see all runways, all activity. If the weather is too cold they have the elevator waiting areas with windows, that are usually a bit warmer than outside. During the Spring and Summer, if the wind is blowing in the right direction the planes will be landing on Runway 15R (and you're not driving) got to one of the terminals and take the #77 bus to the satellite car park. It is next to the threshhold of Runway 15R. The best time to spot is between 11.30-19.00 during the summer. You will see virtually ALL international traffic. The Satellite Car Park is also near Terminal E (international). The only problem is that it is a car park, so there are no toilets, and if you have to go, the bus ride is about 5-10 min, and it is VERY isolated. These are the BEST places to spot. Castle Island is good, but it is a bit too far for my liking.
