I realize this is a very lightweight topic, but thought I would post it anyway.
I recently flew SSV YVR-YYZ (A320) and was extremely impressed with their legendary great service. Cabin crew was very attentive, and the in-flight catering was
actually quite good. A very nice change from Air
Canada (which I normally fly YYZ-YVR-YYZ).
However (And SSV F/A's, I mean this constructively),
the cabin crew uniforms have to be changed. Now, while these ex-Rootsair cranberry uniforms are FAR from being termed ugly (and the quality is very good), in my opinion they simply do not flatter the majority of the F/A's I saw wearing them. In fact, the uniforms seem to "wash out" a lot of the F/A's. SSV former FA uniforms were a beautiful deep red, with colourful scarves. VERY attractive, VERY professional looking. And with black nylons and black heeled shoes, beautifully coiffed hair, tasteful yet enticing make-up, and the scent of a provocative perfume as they whisked by you, pulling their "wheels". Ohh Yeeeah! this made for a most appealing image, most professional, and with a dash of oomph!
LOL, ladies of SSV, I do NOT mean to sound like a sexist pig here, honestly, but you all looked BRILLIANT in the old SSV uniforms. They were real head-turners. We used to call the SSV FA's in these old unforms
"The Sirens Of The Skies". Again, I mean this as a compliment, I too was an F/A, and know only too well the stigma attached to the stereotypical image of the F/A, BUT........Oh ladies!! Why did Russ Payson change these and adopt the Rootsair uniforms?
At least you don't wear PANTS! GOD! if there's one thing I find most non appealing on a female FA, it's pants. I simply find that the cabin crews in skirts look like ladies, proper ladies, feminine and yet professional. LOL....uh...me thinks I'm gonna get it for making this comment! LOL!

I totally agree with you. I felt really sexy wearing my ("Channel"type) red suit with the cream colour silky blouse and mandatory lace camisole underneath. And, you are right it was a very flattering cut.
Now I feel like a bad repeat of an old Startrek episode - LOL ! True though! cheers!
How about firing off a letter to our Director of In-flight with your exact comments. You may wish to add that some of the ladies may wish to consider at least wearing lipstick.

Rootsgirl, aka "SSV Siren"!
You are RIGHT on the money, my dear, when you described the current FA uniform as a bad repeat of "Star Trek"! LOL. Yeah, the Lt. Uhura special!
And I agree with you about those female F/A's who do not wear make-up. At WG, we had these types too, and it drove me up the wall. Some of them looked like they just rolled out of bed, and threw on their uniform.
Very blase, very bland. And that cabin lighting, illuminating those white, washed out complexions, not
an attractive sight.
But enough of that. Tell me......tell me more about that
lace camisole you wore underneath your uniform. Oh yes, do tell, Rootsgirl......do tell. Nyuk Nyuk!
Hey, Say hi to the lovely and so sweet Sylvia J. when you see her! She told me she's based in YHZ this week, recruiting for the base there. (I think) She said her blocks are heavy duty, approaching 93-95 hours for the month!!
I think I SHALL bring this matter up with your director
of in-flight. This is an OUTRAGE!

I love my suite. I hated the dbl-breasted suite we had before Roots Air. I'm not too keen on the Female uniform we have now, but I didn't like the old one either. The new one is very "Star Trek".
Canadi>nBoy, the reason we went with the new "Roots Air uniform" is just that...Roots Air. Roots was going to help pay for most of the uniform so why wouldn't Russ want a new look. You also talked about the "colourful scarves" and how much you liked them. We did go back to that scarf/tie back in the New Year. Your crew to and from YVR must have had them on.
One last thing, I hate to burst your bubble about the female FA's in pants but guess what?....... Our female FA's do have that option. Most of the girls love the pants.
I think the new uniform overall is amazing. Like I said, love the men’s uniform, but that tie has to go!. It's too busy for that GQ looking suite. As far as the ladies uniform, it's too heavy, gets too hot, and the leather has to go. There has to be something added to make it more attractive.

Hey Lasbagman.....that episode that you are talking about was on like the other night.....I DON"T WATCH STAR TREK, but i stop changing channels when i saw "two face"!!!
I always thought that Royal had some decent F/A's, ummmm about Air Canada.....i was on a flight with "Old Betty" AC has to update the F/A's in a serious way.....maybe they will cut the F/A expense a lot if they do so.
To be honest roots girl and rootsboy, I think most guys on a flight don't care whether its pants or skirt.....they just want to get into either.... sorry its the truth....but again its a good thing.....they will book on that air carrier again and again......repeat business.....the best in the world,

Awwww come on Rootsboy, the 6J ties are sharp!
They look better with a navy suit, not that classy grey the gents wear. Having said that, thank good the suit jackets are cut fairly high, can't see too much of them when boarding! But wow! when the jackets come off, they definately turn heads.

Aaaaah, so SSV female FA's DO wear pants! Pity.
Speaking of questionable F/A uniforms, does anyone recall the last uniform worn by the Wardair Canada
Flight Attendants in 1989? Nina Ricci designed those
God-awful sky blue blouses, COVERED with navy blue and red Maple Leafs. Aye yi yi yi yi, talk about an eyesore. But, she also designed a navy blue lightweight coatdress, with a white collar, which was very becoming on the F/A's. When Canadi>n (PWA) purchased Wardair, they used these Navy Blue coatdresses for the Canadi>n on-board Supervisors (OSM's). There was talk of Wardair ditching (pardon the term) the Ricci blouses for a more classy Valentino design, but, alas, this was not to be.
My sister flew as a Wardair F/A for 4 years, and wore the old uniform of the white blouse (with white bow), sky blue skirt, and those HUGE sky blue hats! The WD F/A's hated the hats, as they ruined many a coiffure!!
Mind you, nothing, NOTHING surpasses the old
Worldways Flight Attendant uniforms.....navy blue
POLYESTER!!! We were a bunch of Goddamn fire
