No New WJ Cities Until Fall

I have figured out why we probably won't see any new Westjet cities until the fall.

Yes it is true that the airline in receiving more new -700s this year but they are all going to be used on the new summer schedule that they announced yesterday but once those flights come to an end we will probably see new eastern destinations.

Here is that announcement on the new summer schedule.

WestJet Announces Schedule Enhancements for Summer 2002
CALGARY, Alberta--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 2002--WestJet (TSE:WJA - news) today announced extra services for the peak summer travel season, which includes additional non-stop services for the cities of Victoria, Comox, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Hamilton, and Moncton.

Effective June 28 through September 2, 2002, WestJet will add the following non-stop frequencies:

Four additional flights per week between Comox and Calgary
Six additional flights per week between Victoria and Calgary
One additional flight per week between Kelowna and Calgary
Five additional flights per week between Edmonton and Hamilton
Three additional flights per week between Calgary and Regina
One additional flight per week between Calgary and Saskatoon
Five additional flights per week between Hamilton and Moncton (June 28 - October 16)
New service, one day per week, between Ottawa and Winnipeg
WestJet is currently accepting bookings for travel on routes in its enhanced summer schedule.

WestJet serves the 22 Canadian cities of Victoria, Comox, Vancouver, Abbotsford/Fraser Valley, Prince George, Kelowna, Calgary, Edmonton, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Thompson, Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay, London, Ottawa, Hamilton, Toronto (beginning May 23, 2002), and Moncton. WestJet currently operates a fleet of 28 Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring five state-of-the-art Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft. WestJet is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol WJA.

Guess they need to modify the schedule to make up for cutting 13 x weekly YEG-YYC flights and soon to come cuts to YVR-YLW. Looks like Calgary is picking up the bulk of the new service.
