Does anyone know the circumstances behind the write-off of a Continental 727-243A N571PE that struck the terminal at EWR on June 7, 1997? What happened, damage, etc???
(I know about the incident with a CO MD-80 a couple of years later, this appears to be a different incident).

A MX taxi over to another gate. They did not follow procedure with regards to the Hydraulic system set-up on the flight eng. panel. I don't remember which system they lost, but they did and with it their brakes. Well the rest you must know; into the building they went. Both guys were hurt, and the airplane was a write-off.
Now we have all airplanes in EWR moved by "Super-tugs."

The aircraft was being taxied from a maintenance hangar to the terminal prior to a flight when the maintenance crew lost control, overshot the jetway, and the aircraft impacted the USAir terminal. Two of the crew were seriously injured, but survived the incident.
